precise 5.7.1 retro "Slimmy" by csipesz

#1 Post by csipesz »

Hi, people!
After the dvd-version I did a CD version with use of 5.7.1 retro precise. This stuff also English/Hungarian.
His name: Slimmy(!) Puppy by Csipesz.
size of iso: 695,3 Mb;
size of sfs: 605,3 Mb.
In iso you find yet some drivers, apps and games.
prepared and tested on an older, Compack Pentium3 machine(proci 730 Mhz, memo 512 Mb, videocard nVidia geforce 4 mx 440).
My experiences:
Not really to a machine with strength like this truth this system. (Could be good actually, only at the time of the usage of the internet, weak...)
rather on stronger machines - p4, p4 ht, core 2 duo - recommended to be useful...
The interested ones may download it from here:

http://www.solidfiles.com/d/a379714b2f/ ... .part1.rar
http://www.solidfiles.com/d/4b3a058929/ ... .part2.rar

If somebody does not need my CD, but need 1-2 nvidia driver to this kernel - no problem, may download these from this place:

nvidia-glx-331.20-k3.2.48.pet( for modern, pci express cards:
http://www.solidfiles.com/d/9351394b42/ ... 3.2.48.pet

nvidia-glx-96.43.23-k3.2.48.pet(for geforce 2-4, mx series):
http://www.solidfiles.com/d/6c29c0b7dd/ ... 3.2.48.pet

A more serious office application did not fit into it already, but well this only a CD...
- but there are two good office apps here:

http://www.solidfiles.com/d/df1229ef14/ ... ami_HU.pet
http://www.solidfiles.com/d/8b2b9f215e/ ... 0.3_HU.pet
(don't worry, these made for not only hungarians!)

Removed apps:
asounder
cgtcalc
getflash
gnome mplayer
gwhere
jwm
original games
original opera
pmusic
ycalc

The detailed list of the applications built in by me:
xvkbd-3.1

For hungarians only:

Unfortunately, I was not able to download the 2nd rar file. I hope you can remedy this so I can try your puppy.

Kind regards,

i don't understand it...
- that link works well for me though.
if you are in any trouble with the solidfiles, try to download the iso in ONE piece using the archive.org. link.(Ally's link)

torrent

#9 Post by raffy »

Am downloading by torrent but it says 729 MB. The numbers given elsewhere would not exceed 700 MB. Why is this so?

added folder

#11 Post by raffy »

Yes, there is a folder named "Others" that contains packages in addition to the usual contents of a Pupy ISO.

I will test a frugal install tonight (in 8 more hours) as the files are in my home PC.

Later: Wow, this is a colorful desktop with lots of applications. :)

Minor glitch - the nVidia built-in ethernet of the PC works slowly with the kernel, so will see later how to speed things up.

Hi csipesz,

nice puppy! Precise 571 and variations seem to work very well for me.

I've done a manual frugal instal of 'slimmy', enjoying it, just a couple of issues; when I try to open Hard Info I get a pop-up warning but unfortunately the warning itself is blank. Hard Info will open eventually if I keep deleting the pop-ups, seven or eight times.

Same thing using the terminal, but it gives this: (hardinfo:2335: GdkPixbuf - CRITICAL * *; gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed.

Also, one I should be able to solve for myself, (but I haven't yet), the slider-volume control on the desktop doesn't work. I have sound which can be adjusted when using VLC, etc, but not from the desktop icon.

Any help much appreciated. Otherwise, no other problems.

Many thanks.

EDIT; I think I accidentally solved the pixbuf error when I changed the gtk theme. Default was citrus, I changed it to Eucalypt and next time I tried Hard Info it worked normally. :D More luck than anything. Still thinking about getting the volume icon working.

Well... what is your problem, lackomajor?

A Chromium?

it's too big for a Puppy.

I Like your Puppies from Europe, i would have dowloaded this one, but it's too big for a Puppy. Some applications are useless (bluetooth).
Soory for this one 5.7.1.
However Legopen is still in my dream team 'European Puppies' Zone € 'zone euro with driving on the RH side of the road)
Trnslation to french is more than perfect, it's Toutou 5.7.1

if for you, for me - not the little size, but the versatility, the big knowledge the important one - elect it then the csipeszpup CD or the megalomaniac dvd. But sure, if you like suffering steadily, all kinds of lesser or greater one installing, make a choice then small puppies...
Sure, I am aware of it, that my stuffs not anymore truths onto brand new computers...
(sorry for my jerky english :) )
