PHATSlacko problems

#1 Post by woodymnt »

I've been having some problems with PhatSlacko that I put off asking for help with. Several packages in it are rendered useless because the open file dialog is frozen. All that will respond to a mouse click is the cancel button. This happens in Gimp and Libre office, any package that uses this type of file select window. Attached is a capture of what I'm talking about made in Lucid, which works fine. This window just doesn't let me proceed with anything. I'm having this problem in PhatSlacko 5.5.02. Regular Slacko 5.4 doesn't have this issue. I'm running a frugal install from a USB stick on an Acer Aspire One AOA-150.

Specs:

"""""""""""

" Minimum System Requirements

A pentium i686 class processor, with the PAE instruction,
2GHz single core,
1 GHz dual core,
1 GB RAM, preferably with swap.

No, it's not for old machines.
It is designed for production.
It runs well on a USB stick, using f2fs (aka Flash Friendly File System). "

I have a similar apec Acer Eeepc...10" screen.

I would wonder if you had a bad download.

Or it is too new for the Acer to handle.... as above.

:::::

There is an updated Lucid with a full suite.
Read the list.

:::::::::

I just run multi pups on usb myself with the Eeepc..

Older Slacko..older Lucids plus newer...also Dpup.

In my link here.

Note this bloke...
" I tried installing 5.7.1 on my Eee PC but the help intro boxes were
too big for the screen."

So try other Pups....and get back to us.

Hi @Woodymnt

I've been a Phat users since its inception and have not experience this. Looking over the PhatSlacko thread, I dont see this referenced. This is one of the most stable of all PUPs I have used, but, there are always issues that surface from time to time with any distro.

When this occurs, could/would you
  1. jump to another session (Ctrl-Alt-F2 for example)
  2. type

    Code: Select all

    # free > free-report.txt
  3. jump back to your X desktop (Ctrl-Alt-F4)
  4. post that simple report to the thread
Maybe there is some sort of a memory problem occurring on you machine.

Questions
  • Does this happen with some or many of your apps where you try to save stuff?
  • I am not a frugal user, but, can you either reboot frugal with the following boot-time selections to see if you have the same problem or reboot a Live CD/DVDusing the following steps at the PhatSlacko boot screen?:
    1. hit F2
    2. puppy pfix=ram
    3. test for the problem
Here to help
