Xbatalarm
Xbatalarm
May 7th, 2014 UPDATE: version 2.1 available.
Version 2.1 changelog: :
- automatic X launcher (managing software start and stop) added
- bugs removed
- NLS renamed 2.1, but 2.0 equal
------------------------------
For historical interest:
April 29th, 2014 UPDATE: version 2.0 available.
Version 2.0 changelog:
- optimized code
- GUI tool to set battery alert percentage and time between alerts (called by Menu > System > Xbatalarm Settings or /usr/bin/xbatalarm-config).
- default percentage is set at 15% and time to 30 seconds
- settings are now stored in configuration file /etc/xbatalarm/xbatalarm.conf
- no reboot or restart needed anymore
- rc.local entry instead of /root/startup link (to avoid one or more launches of Xbatalarm in case of X session crash)
NLS
This 2.0 software version contains more text than older ones, so NLS old packages can't be used.
Puplet developers
Let me know if you include Xbatalarm in your puplet. I'll inform my blog readers.
Changelog and download available here and on my blog and repository (see my sign for addresses).
Enjoy!
------------------------------
04/20/2013 UPDATE: version 1.2 available.
Put Xdialog instead of xmessage to popup text message.
Now, message looks like your GTK theme and hasn't got problems with cursor anymore.
News: Native Language Support (NLS) started via additional pets. Translators/pet-packers of xbatalarm.mo files are welcome.
Until now, there are an IT and an es_AR language files in this thread (English is default).
------------------------------
04/06/2013 UPDATE: version 1.1 available.
Support for batteries different from BAT0 added.
Please, note: restart X (or reboot) to be sure that Xbatalarm runs after installation (or open a terminal and verify). Some notebooks need that.
------------------------------
I introduce you Xbatalarm-1.0_x86.pet, battery monitor utility for laptops with Puppy Linux on board.
Image is a test (on 99% of battery) and only wants to show how this program works, because this one doesn't need to be launched into a terminal in everyday's use.
Advantages:
- very light, it can coexist with default powerapplet_tray
- it runs in background and notify you, via pop-up and acustic warning, when charge level goes under 15% of the last capacity detected (and not that one declared initially by manufacturer. Useful for old batteries)
If you'll uninstall, please restart X or reboot your computer to stop monitoring.

Xbatalarm as Momanager entry?
First of all, thanks to all people who tried and enjoyed Xbatalarm.
I'm curious about your work, josejp2424. Could you post it and tell me more?

Hi josejp2424,
could you pet-pack your "locale-es-xbatalarm.tar.gz" as "Xbatalarm_NLS-es_AR-1.1_x86.pet" or create it again as "Xbatalarm_NLS-es_AR-1.2_x86.pet" and post it here?
Please, note: Xdialog in 1.2, instead of xmessage in 1.0 and 1.1, needs to rewrite xbatalarm.po file to make mo one correctly (with Momanager or not).
Last but not least... You are now in section "Credits" of our script for your nice work and help in building language support.

Xbatalarm new release is coming
Hi live ,live wrote:Very nice, the only issues is it keeps prompting about every 30 sec or so to plug your notebook.
yes, I will fix this issue soon, with next release (that will come with other fixes).
I have to set an alert time good for most people as possible (now program is prompting every 18 seconds), but I can't guess what the right time is. Yours and others are welcome to help me.
You can keep it. To set your alert time, open /usr/bin/xbatalarm as a text and change SLEEP_TIME variable to a number of seconds (between alerts) that you like.live wrote:Once is enough, at that rate is just keeps to anoying to a point you want to remove it_
I hope that helps.
Bye.

Hello Whitesnow
Ma que bella !
Well, yesterday I was on battery only, and around 12% left (about 20min) it starts to prompt each 18sec on my screen for power supply, which I didn't have with me.
It annoyed me so much, in the end I abandoned and shutted my laptop down.
Now, I do prefer a warning to in contrast none, where I experienced a sudden power cut off (as so concentrated on my work, I didn't cast an eye on the battery indicator...)
1/ the first warning is the most important people should confirm it (in case you aren't for a moment in front of your laptop...)
2/ after 1st warning, maybe every 5 min or prompt the user for a single digit answer in minutes (same waning window for every prompt, even very first).
Thanks.

Xbatalarm 2.0
Xbatalarm 2.0 is forthcoming.
A graphical user interface tool will be available to set battery alert percentage and time between alerts.
As usual, feedbacks will be welcome.
