Virtualbox mouse location always off

Anybody uses puppy linux (precise) inside virtualbox?
with win 7 host 64 bit.


It looks like so many problems.
1. mouse always off
so, i have to press ctrl + I several times, to get it the same location as the cursor. (this doesnt happen when I use ubuntu)

2. i can't access usb drive from virtualbox. (many people posting solution but none works for me)

At least, mouse problems go away installing VirtualBox Guest Additions.

Don't know USB issues.

So, not that problem i guess.

to install guest additions properly you need to install both the devx.sfs & kernel_src.sfs in the puppy guest.

what precise version are you running? (click help in the menu to find out)
also what kernel ? to find which kernel type this into a terminal

You did help me before. I've installed the patch kernel already.
And, it run successfully, at least no error.

Sometimes, i can make it right though by switching back and forth using (Right) ctrl + I.
So, if i switch back & forth between host & guest, it takes me long time to come back to guest as i have to switch couple of times to calibrate my mouse position. Unlike virtual pc from windows, its integration with host is seamless. But, if i install puppy on virtual PC, its integration feature is disable so i can't access usb drive anyway. Worse is, i dont know how to transfer files back & forth from host to guest and vice versa using virtual pc. This problem of mouse off location doesn't happen when i use ubuntu. So, it must be something from puppy linux & virtualbox.


Any more idea Phil?

Regarding my second question of usb drive? i've tried by installing ubuntu, it still has the same problem. So, it is not because of puppy rather it is due to virtualbox itself. Until now, i can't solve it yet.

I found out that without installing virtualbox guest addition, it works perfectly for my problem 1 : mouse position offset.

you could try vmware player, i have puppies running fine within it and prefer it over virtualbox ....
you can get vmware player from the vmware website

I have to disable mouse integration in Virtualbox for a few reasons. One of them is an issue with the mouse not being able to move to the bottom of the screen. Another issue is that my scroll wheel does not work unless I disable mouse integration.

USB is a pain to use in Virtualbox, but it does work.

I was testing with Slacko v.5.5 and the Mouse Integration feature seems to be automatically enabled, but the odd thing is that Virtualbox doesn't show that the feature is enabled and I can't disable it. Which causes the mouse location to be a bit off, most notable around the edges of the Virtualbox window. I can disable the mouse integration feature while Slacko is booting and then the mouse works like it should in the Virtual Machine. You just have to know to press the right control button (or whatever your virtualbox "host" button is) to "uncapture" the mouse.

I have a Windows 7 32-bit Host OS, and the current latest Virtualbox v.4.3.12 r93733.

I am still curious as to why there are issues with running Puppy Linux in Virtualbox. Have the most recent versions of Puppy Linux been including Virtualbox drivers?
