Pic Of The Day
Following on from the previous plant based item. Yesterday morning, there was a full moon. In some traditions this month's cycle is known as 'The Flower Moon' as it coincides with the abundance of spring bloom. I was out early prior to 04.00 am. Twilight and early birdsong - nothing else to break the early magic.
The moon was descending over the headland, dipping towards the oak trees in the far hedgerow. Notice the parallel marks in the field. Although the spring has been cold and wet, there has been no severe frosts; in consequence there is lots of blossom, and the fields are lush with tall spring grass. Silaging is now underway. There was no wind and the sky remained clear. Ideal conditions to picture the moon. Camera - as always - mounted on a tripod.

Those flower-moon photos are worth stealing : you should put a watermark on them so you get credit / payment.
The free photo-editing software GIMP has a plug-in which does that ...

Copyright isn't a dirty word.Flash wrote:Should Barry copyright Puppy Linux and then charge for it? If you don't want something stolen, don't put it on the Internet.
If an author wants waive all reproduction rights, (aka copyleft), they can chose to do that, but it's not compulsory to disseminate artwork in that way, nor is it unethical to reserve all reproduction rights on work one has created.
If their work is being reproduced commercially then it's only fair the creators should get paid a share. If the creator doesn't want money then they should still receive attribution for their work, (credit where it is due).
[ Fossil's photo's wouldn't look out of place in an photo-library, the income from which could help cover the cost of their photography ].
I'm not against copyright so much as the bizarre thing that lawyers have turned it into:Barkin wrote:Copyright isn't a dirty word.Flash wrote:Should Barry copyright Puppy Linux and then charge for it? If you don't want something stolen, don't put it on the Internet.
Example: Susan invents something which directly improves everyone's life in this country and of course is granted a patent to protect her work.
Jennifer makes a movie about Susan's invention and is granted a copyright which lasts more than 3 times longer than Susan's patent.
....it's just wrong
Ted Dog, Which images would you like? If you give the jpeg identifiers, either email me whatever you want or I'll post them up as a zip file for anyone to enjoy. Be warned, full size is large!
Yes, I'm all too aware of copyright and the problems of intellectual rights - aka image theft. I've been taking pictures man and boy for well over half a century - starting off with a Xmas present Box Brownie! Ah, them were the days! Unfortunately, since the digital age, there's always some SOB who will attempt to take some of my older prints which have been passed around, scan them and then try to use the material for their own use; small-time local tour-guide books springs all too readily to mind! 'Nuff said!
Oh, in case the question is asked: the camera used was a Fuji Finepix HS10, with a 24 to 720 mm zoom lense. Giving a real zoom magnification factor of just over 14x. Plus, always use a good heavy tripod!

I'm using a Fuji Finepix S304 Camera, Fujinon Zoom Lense, 1:2.8-3.0, 6x Optical Zoom, f=6-36mm. Didn't use it for a long time...the camera used was a Fuji Finepix HS10, with a 24 to 720 mm zoom lense

I think Barry should get paid and I don't think the donations page does him justice (though that's really just a guess). I don't really know what a good answer would be but I think it's kind of lousy to have something out for so long and then try to charge for it. Probably lose a boat full of users.
I will say that a better answer might be if Barry created his own Puppy version (like Quirky for example) and charge users to download that. If there's quality control and some state of the art features, I believe many will pay.
I'm waiting for the day your Facebooks and Twitters start charging users. How quickly they'll move to Instagram or other services.....

Hi, guys.Fossil wrote:Ted Dog. How do you wish me to send the picture? The forum only accepts a maximum of 256 Kb upload. The image is 3648 x 2432 saved at 85% compression, which gives a 1021 Kb picture.
If you don't already know about them, these two are pretty good sharing/depot sites:
http://www.datafilehost.com/
http://www.zippyshare.com/sites/index_old.jsp
If one of those doesn't suit you, here's a list of other solutions:

Good luck!
