How to send a Fax?

#1 Post by fixit »

I would like to be able to send faxes as I have a modem.

I found this, but it is out of date.

Tested working in wary and wheezy:

But if your provider uses a digital line and voip calls it will not work. In these cases the provider usually releases a web-based fax sending and receiving utility.

Thank You for the posts.

I have used efax-gtk before and it works fine for me.

The link for the slacko pet seems to me broken, through an error when you click on it.

I'll try and slip a precise install on this box too and give the wheezy pet a try.

Thank You for the tips.

The precise puppy has efax, efax-gtk, mgetty-fax, hylafax, minicom, gv, ... well anyway, I should be able to get something working for fax with that.

I installed minicom and found the modem. Then I installed efax-gtk and it came up fine. I didn't try and send a fax yet though, but it looks like it will work. I had good luck with efax-gtk in the past.

http://www.faxtoy.net/

You can test it by sending a fax to 1-855-330-1239

The site actually shows faxes that it receives.

Hi all...

Is there a way to prevent efax-gtk from loading into memory at boot? I didn't see a setting for this.

Thanks!

There is a script in the Startup directory that you can delete.

I forget it's name.

If you installed efax-gtk_wheezy-3.2.13.pet you have to open with geany /root/Startup/efaxstby and comment the line launching efax at boot if you want to launch it only when you want.
