Try doing a Frugal Install to a folder on the Hard Drive called /puppy431 and see if that speeds things up. You could do that and still boot from the CD. If it runs faster, then you might amend Grub to include the 431 installation. I assume you've still got the Swap Partition?
If it's not Backed-Up, then it isn't really yours.
You just think it is.
