The usb unmounted.
Maybe reasonable and be as expected.
Very interesting.
I tried some testing in a different direction.
1. Frugal install on ntfs partition with save folder on ext3 partition:
Renamed "tahrsave" to "Xtahrsave" and booted.
2. Frugal install on ext4 partition with save folder in same directory as puppy sfs:
Renamed "tahrsave" to "Xtahrsave" and booted.
In both cases the partition containing the puppy sfs remained mounted, according to "df" and "mount".
But this partition could be manually unmounted, according to "df" and "mount", and the system continued to work.
However on shutdown tahr puppy listed the partition as being unmounted as a stray partition.
So, the "problem" appears to not be peculiar to usb, but rather all pupmode=5 boots.
Note: I have not observed any similar occurrences on any pupmode=12 boot. In particular when the puppy sfs is on an ntfs partition and the save folder is on an ext3 partition, the ext3 partition is mounted, but the ntfs partition is not.
