Anyone else having trouble with Pmusic?Philh wrote:pmusic
Playing music in seamonkey makes pmusic lock up for me.
Does it work for anyone.
eg

I could swap over to Aqualung for the next SP2, 7.0.2.

- seamonkey needs this to configure
ln -s /usr/X11R7/include/* /usr/include/
- if I remove line for keyboard language in xorg.conf, then I need to have a "setxkbmap fr" somewhere at startup.
I am away from home, so can't recall, exactly.
It is just a matter of setting some variables, such as LDCONFIG.
I was about to comment about the fonts problem - those webpages that comes with odd icons usually have the CSS to download them from somewhere; no local fonts are needed. Anyway, glad that you have it fixed.

jamesbond,
Just one thing, while I remember.
In Fatdog64, SeaMonkey, the "Extensions" tab in the Add-Ons Manager is empty.
I have solved that one. Had the same issue with Quirky.
It is my cutdown icu data file. I guess that you are doing the same thing?
It has to be "less cut down". I was fiddling with that this morning, got a icu data file of about 12MB that works with SM -- bit big, but much smaller than the full 21MB.
So, SP2 will have SM 2.33, with fixed Add-Ons Manager, and fixed Download Manager. And of course the fixed fonts. Faster startup to. Yippee!

It is not recommended to use 'configure' directly.linuxcbon wrote:One bug : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1143322
Instead, you need to create a 'mozconfig' file.
Do a search for "linuxfromscratch seamonkey", to find instructions.
https://bkhome.org/news/
It's empty by default because we put the built-in extensions in the "hidden area" (distribution/bundles). This was the only way to get seamonkey to start properly if there is no network connection - it will crash otherwise.BarryK wrote:jamesbond,

What did you do?I have solved that one. Had the same issue with Quirky.
No, we didn't cutdown the icu icu; but Fatdog seamonkey build does not use the system-icu anyway (it uses seamonkey's own internal icu library). Fatdog basesfs does not include libicu.It is my cutdown icu data file. I guess that you are doing the same thing?

By the way, Fatdog seamonkey builds its own lightning and google-calendar connector (and got included built-in). They are very closely connected to the seamonkey build and depending on mozilla's (or other external providers add-ons) didn't work well for us.
cheers!

I am currently running Quirky 6.4.1 on all my machines and USB sticks and I am perfectly happy with it. Since 6.1.4 cannot be upgraded to 7.0.1, will 6.4.1 be upgraded and maintained by itself anymore, or is it all stopped now? Will I be left behind?
I was thinking of upgrading to this 7.0.1, but there are a few snags. My laptop, for one thing, has only 1 gig of memory. It is my understanding one needs 2 gig in order to do the required full install (I think I read that right).
Anyway, I am going to burn this 7.0.1 onto a disc and see what I am missing out on and how much fun it is!

Um, don't understand. Chatzilla is an example of a built-in extension, or add-on. But, it does show in the "Extensions" tab of the Add-Ons Manager.jamesbond wrote:It's empty by default because we put the built-in extensions in the "hidden area" (distribution/bundles). When I downloaded the official x86_64 binary tarball, I got entries in Extensions tab, without adding any extra add-ons.
Ditto, after fixing icu, my compile of SM now shows Chatzilla etc.
I am away from home right now, using a Windows 7 machine, running IE.
But, I do recall SM has two places inside /usr/lib/seamonkey where extensions can reside -- presume that one of them is what you refer to as hidden.
Note, I haven't had any problem with SM crashing if there is no network connection.

The 2GB requirement is for running from live-CD or a frugal installation, as everything gets loaded into RAM.Blackfish wrote:I am currently running Quirky 6.4.1 on all my machines and USB sticks and I am perfectly happy with it. If you go to my blog announcement for 7.0.1, there is a link to install instructions.
There is a file you download, then run a script to install to a flash drive or a hd partition.
-- that will be a full installation, and will run fine in a 1MB RAM PC.

It doesn't in Fatdog's seamonkey and that's because we did it that way. You won't also find Lightning in the add-on window, although it is included too. But all other extensions manually added by the user later on will show.BarryK wrote:Um, don't understand. Chatzilla is an example of a built-in extension, or add-on. Yes, that's because the official binary put the extensions in "distribution/extensions" and "extensions" (more below). Fatdog's one doesn't.When I downloaded the official x86_64 binary tarball, I got entries in Extensions tab, without adding any extra add-ons.
I haven't seen your mozconfig. By default SM will use its internal libicu. Only if you specify --with-system-icu it will link to the external (ie, system's) libicu.Ditto, after fixing icu, my compile of SM now shows Chatzilla etc.
They actually have 3 places. One is "distribution/extensions", the other one is "extensions" (extensions put in these directories will both be visible in add-on manager) and the hidden one is "distribution/bundles".I am away from home right now, using a Windows 7 machine, running IE.
But, I do recall SM has two places inside /usr/lib/seamonkey where extensions can reside -- presume that one of them is what you refer to as hidden.
Both myself and kirk got segfaults when we tried to run SM *for the very first time* and it can't get on to the network to verify that the extensions "are compatible with this version of SM" - which is totally ridiculous and rubbish because those extensions were built at the same time with the SM itself ... The only workaround we found, short of not including any extensions at all, was to put them in "distribution/bundles". If you don't have this problem, well, I'd really be interested to see your mozconfigNote, I haven't had any problem with SM crashing if there is no network connection.

It could be because I modify the "milestone override" in 'prefs.js', so that at first startup it will go to my home page, not the SM website.jamesbond wrote:BarryK wrote:Both myself and kirk got segfaults when we tried to run SM *for the very first time* and it can't get on to the network to verify that the extensions "are compatible with this version of SM" - which is totally ridiculous and rubbish because those extensions were built at the same time with the SM itself ... This is the code in woofQ seamonkey template 'FIXUPHACK':
Code: Select all
if [ -f usr/lib/seamonkey/platform.ini ];then
SMMILESTONE="`cat usr/lib/seamonkey/platform.ini | grep '^Milestone' | cut -f 2 -d '='`"
SMPREFSJS="`find root/.mozilla/seamonkey -maxdepth 2 -type f -name prefs.js`"
#this makes the puppy home page display at first run of sm...
if [ "$SMMILESTONE" ];then
smPATTERN="s% "rv:.*"% "rv:${SMMILESTONE}"%"
sed -i -e "$smPATTERN" $SMPREFSJS
fi
fi
'platform.ini' has this:
Milestone=36.0.1
However, after first run of SM, /root/.mozilla/.../prefs.js has this:
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "rv:36.0");
Looks like I need to modify the script a bit, chop off that ".1"
I think, not sure, but this might also bypass the extensions check.

I've written the instructions for installing mypaint on April64

I'm loving April 7! The administrators at my uni won't let me install persistent tools, but are kind enough to let me choose boot device. so I put April7 on a stick, built my tools, and now have my entire workstation in my pocket (I tried a laptop; it was hard to carry while jogging to school, and it only took a few months of bicycle commuting to destroy it...) Much better than my old MO: bash script to temporarily install git and editor, push to server every time I want to compile xP
I expected that April7 would be convenient, but I didn't anticipate that it would be so FAST. Boot after the splash is ~10 seconds on every system I've tried. Drives all hardware without hiccup (installed nVidia drivers for Maxwell cards). A project which takes 4 minutes to compile and uses 2.5GB of RAM to do so on my Windows machine completes in 40 seconds using 500MB of RAM on April7 running from a stick! It's so pleasant that I haven't touched Windows in a week. Thanks, Barry
There were some gotchas getting everything set up, though. A lot of devx is wheezy era, so I had to compile old versions of some programs, but some modules are pretty new, and broke compatibility... Inkscape gave me some trouble initially. I need >= 0.48 for the SVG->PDF+TeX cli feature. I'd like to install 0.91, but gtkmm and friends are too old; I can make do with 0.48, but poppler is too new. Eventually I found this patch which makes it possible to install inkscape0.48.5 with poppler0.29 from the June2014 source. I also got hplip(lite), ImageMagick, djvulibre & djview4 and miscellaneous (ST3, texlive and Anaconda were easy) packaged up and installed, but it would have all been much easier if devx were fresher.
My only big gripe would have to be SeaMonkey. It's not very fast, plugins and extensions aren't showing up in the extension manager, and if I try to navigate by the address bar the browser locks up for 3-5 seconds. Especially annoying when I mean to middle-click on a link to open a new tab and miss, whenceupon the default action is to paste selection/clipboard to the address bar and freeze up >:|

pupRadio & Telly
To philh,
Hi,
your latest radio URL links are good and very welcome.
I also found BBC Radio 2 & 3 links by slight mods to yours,
but would also like to know the best URL for BBC World Service
though.
Regarding pupTelly, have you got any useful URLs for quick
access to interesting overseas english language tv news stations
to watch, including restoring 24 hr Sky News which seems
to have recently lost its original link.
Thanks in advance & best regards.

I never bothered to upgrade them, as the two packages that use them in my T2 build, are quite happy with those old versions.
The next release of Quirky will have fixed many SeaMonkey issues.
