GIT to host translations and langpacks
Hello,
To include the various translations of Puppy and facilitate collaborative work, I planned to create a git (probably at https://github.com/). Different branches will be created (one per language).
What do you think of this proposal?
Cordialement,

Ciao ARSI,
I think it's a good thing. I'm working on precise 571, slacko570 and slacko600 beta. I found many files without gettext (some already done and others do not) and some solutions to translations considered 'impossible'. Some settled looking in other langpacks. I am convinced that the union of the translators will benefit.

Hi,
I think, developer(s) must create an official online translation system (e.g. https://translations.launchpad.net)
or must create a project on sites like transifex, github.

That is an excellent idea.ASRI éducation wrote:Hello,

Cordialement,
However, you may want to use Pootle instead. Is designed for just that.
There are also some public poolte servers but I do not know if any one provides project hosting.
You may want to check.

Ideally gettexted scripts should be submitted to Woof-CE directly, for it's the place where they must be in order to be applied in all new Puppy builds, that is what localizing Puppy is about.
I agree with mavrothal, Pootle is a more suitable choice than Git for online collaborative translation. Git is OK to host a langpack itself, as a source to build a PET of the latest translations available.
However, bear in mind that only those with enough skills would be able to participate using these sharing services. Remember that Momanager GUI was born to make the translation process easier, more friendly to bilingual Puppy users, and now there's the buzz of these fashionable commandline clients.

Hi, ASRI éducation.
Thanks for pointing me to this here by a PM.
I think this could be very useful, but should be adressed to the official builders of the German language package.
Since they have already created a official German language package for woof puppies and also already working on a woof-ce version, they should be involved into such project.
At least because of we (I and them) do have different opinions/views on what should be used in a German language package.
Besides they do use the new reformed rules of writing German texts, I do prefer the older rules.
Main different view is about the use of "Du" and "Sie" which in EN would be: "thou" and "you" - I do prefer "Sie", they won't.
A official language package should follow one direction in such cases and I don't want to change mine.

Hello,
The creation of a Git was only a proposal.
As some users/contributors seem to be interested in a workspace/common shares, I will create a space to test with French translations.
When it will be functional, I will re-activate this thread.
Thank in advance for your future contributions.

You will soon be informed of the tests/successes/challenges.

Using a git offers many exciting opportunities: collaborative development, version history, etc.
This is very useful for editing files 'po'.
For easier creation of po/mo files, Dekany (a French-speaking user) has created scripts hosted on git.
The only problem for new users is that git is not user friendly.
So I promptly abandoned the development of this git. Nothing prevents resuming...
