amsn 0.96 dotpup - MSN Messenger for Linux
Hi,
I've made a dotpup of amsn-0.96 that works with vanilla puppy 2.12 and also with puppy 2.11. [cegil has succcesfully run it with 2.10 so I've added that]
It replaces the Tcl combox with a later version and installs the TLS libraries for TCL 8.5 so aMsn works happily. The dotpup install will warn about replacing these files (I've nabbed the gtkam dotpup and adapted it to install amsn instead! Thanks to the creator(s) of the gtkam dotpup.sh
You can download the dotpup from here: http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Instant_Messa ... n-0.96.pup
(Thanks Mark for providing dotpups.de
Problem reports, suggestions, comments and flames are welcome.
Woof! Woof! Woof!
Ben.
P.S. It may with with versions prior to 2.10 I just haven't tested it on any other versions apart from 2.11 and 2.12

1.09CE troubles
I'll try booting puppy 1.08 and see what I need to do to get the aMsn dotpup working under that.
It could be that 1.09CE uses Tk8.4 and this dotpup is based on Tk8.5?
Ben.
P.S. That 3d Desktop looks snazzy!

Tried 1.08 - no luck
I installed the dotpup and got the same message you did. So I checked what the library needed and it is linked to libstdc++.so.6 and 1.08 (and presumably 1.09CE) only has libstdc++.so.5.
So did you symlink your libstdc++.so.5 to libstdc++.so.6 for TkCximage to work?

amsn 0.96 dotpup on 2.10 ... ?
I installed this yesterday on my puppy 2.10 and it works great.
I guess [that] I had the right libraries already on my system,
since I did not have to download or do anything else to get it to
work, huh?

Excellent! I'm glad to hear that. I suspect it may work on any 2.x flavour ofcegil wrote:I installed this yesterday on my puppy 2.10 and it works great.

What is aMsn?
Good point! Next time I release a dotpup I'll at least put a little blurb about what it's for.Flash wrote:What is amsn? What is it good for?
aMsn is a nifty Microsoft Messenger client that allows you to video conference (no audio support yet) and use/see emoticons, winks and nudges just like the Windows MSN client can.
Hope that helps.
Ben.
Shrtcut
Tried making the shortcut, no Joy. Would be great to have this on 1.09ce (which we still use). We also use 2.02 as a default install, what additional libraries would be required. Any ideas anyone? Wish the pace of change would slow down a little!

Bugs
Weve had this testing and it seems a mite buggy and slow (I dont blame them as really Micro$oft have been forcing the rate of change on this project and by the sounds of it they are quite a small prgramming team). Has anyone else had problems?

2.02
Were using it with 2.02, but since weve upgraded to 2.13 it seems to be working fine.

testing
Have done some more testing in 2.02. It seems that wheneve a popup window appears in the bottom right to indicate an event, the rest of AMSN "freezes" and waits for it to disappear. We had it set to notify of every change of status from everyone online and this was causing a lot of delays.
We may regress to 0.95 (available on my AMSN tutorial) thread while this sorted out. It must be difficult when you are a small team of people to keep up with the various fads of unnecessary eye candy at Micro$oft.

Too Buggy
Weve had too many complaints that amsn 0.96 is buggy and crashes, we are reverting back to 0.95 for all of our setups. 0.95 can be found here

Unmovable?
Amsn seems not to be able to be uninstalled using PupGet, unless I am doing something wrong. It doesnt give an error message, just doesnt disappear. We really need to revert back to 0.95. Any ideas? How could I clean it off manually?

dopup.de does not work!
Hi all!
I have tried to download the amsn messenger as a dotpup package, but I cannot get the homepage to work!
Has he been shut down? Can I get the messenger anywhere else?
