I got it going in 2.11, I think I put GetDir in first then KDE and it seemed to work, but Amarok was way too much for the pretty low spec computer I'm putting it on. Gonna give it more ram anyway so might try again then.

Pity, XMMS is the best audio player for me so far but it lacks proper playlist/library.

Thanks. DB

KDE Mini with 2.12

#43 Post by shrdlu »

I had the same results as David with 2.12. I renamed MU's _211.sfs to _212.sfs. Made sure it was in /mnt/home. Installed prereq's. Also started with a clean install (frugal, NTFS - I had tried unsuccessfully to hack 1.XX usr_more.) When I booted I noticed that it mounted the kde stuff on /initrd/pup_ro3, so, it makes sense that Kicker can't find anything.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Shrdlu.

/initrd/pup_ro3 is the mountpoint, but then these files also should be visible in "/" thanks to unionfs.

So
/initrd/pup_ro3/opt/kde/bin/kicker
also should be visible as
/opt/kde/bin/kicker

If it is not, try to install the KDE-3.5.5.pup again, it should fix, that sometimes the files are not visible in "/".

No joy. Reinstalled kde pup. Rebooted. The directories are there, but the only files in /opt/kde/bin are kde355.dot, startkde and startkde2.

I wonder if it a wierdness related to ntfs and union.

Thanks.

Shrdlu

UPDATE: Works. :D

Tried MKKDE. Had same problem. Then tried advice MU gave someone else in MKKDE thread:
___________________
Boot WITHOUT the .sfs
Then delete these folders:
/initrd/pup_rw/opt (Caution: there was also VPN folder there. Saved it somewhere else.)
/initrd/pup_rw/usr/lib/qt
/initrd/pup_rw/usr/local/MU-XDG-activator

Then reboot WITH the .sfs.
Then install the dotpup again.
____________________

I also had to fix broken symlinks in /usr/lib/qt/lib (libqt-mt.so and libqt-mt.so.3).
Finally, I added symlink to libqt.so in /usr/lib/qt-3.3.6.

Cheers!

Has this been mirrored anywhere else since htb65.de is no longer in use?

I am trying to install KDE 3.5.5 mini on Puppy 2.14 using a clean, renamed puppy install, and the packages for 2.11.

I renamed the sfs file from 211 to 214 and rebooted
I installed Getdir, said yes for overwrite
I installed the KDE package, said yes for overwrite all 4 files.
I rebooted.

Now, when I try to start Kicker or startkde, i get errors
libqt-mt.so.3: no such file or directory

What do I miss?

I don't understand, isn't it just a symlink what's missing? I installed QT and now it works, but are you sure is it safe to have QT installed 2 times?

one qt is in the KDE.sfs.
If you install another one, the one in the .sfs becomes invisible.
There might be issues with unionfs that caused that the symlink to the qt of KDE was not created correctly.

Sorting this out would require some trial and error, maybe delete some .wh* files in /initrd/pup_rw.

can't find /mnt/home - puppy2.14

#52 Post by orbisvicis »

Hello
Sorry for re-awakening this thread, once again..

I have created a KDE355mini_214, however puppy has no /mnt/home folder in which to place it.

So instead I put it in the very bottom of the usb drive /mnt/sdb2 (with pup_214.sfs and all the other files). On reboot /initrd/pup_ro3 is empty (and ro_4 and ro_5) - so I havent yet run KDE-3.5.5.pup.

Where should I put the .sfs file so it is loaded at startup?
(perhaps /mnt/tmpfs ? )

Sincerely

orbisvicis

Edit:
Problem Solved, thanks to the good people at #puppylinux!!
And KDE works like a charm

I have no idea what I did, but I seem to have lost the menu entries in kicker and kde. I have no applications listed and the things that are listed open up with nothing in them (ie. desktop config)

I am using puppy214 with the KDEmini-3.5.4.sfs.

Maybe it happened when I upgraded from 212 to 214, I am not sure if I ever checked it after the upgrade.

All the kde apps do show up in the xfce menus.

Is there an easy fix?

Maybe the XDG-environment variables changed.
They are in /etc/profile I think.
You might try to comment them.

After scratching my head for most of the morning trying to figure out the xdg menu thing for kde, I found this little app called kappfinder in /opt/kde/bin. I ran that and chose all apps and now my menus are back in kicker + kde!!!

I'm starting to like kde more and more.

Qt4.1.4

#56 Post by Billwho? »

I currently have Qt4.1.4 installed in 2.15CE alpha (needed for the version of HPLIP I am using) will this work with KDE or are there libraries in the sfs I will need? If I do need libraries in the sfs how can I use them without causing a conflict?

True, its just that being on dialup I try to reduce my download sizes wherever possible.

Amarok

#59 Post by ortloffa »

Everything seems to work EXCEPT for the scan collection. I cant find an error message, it just does not work. Amarok says that it is building collection. then "building collection" goes away and nothing else happens.
