I see. I can't reproduce on my version of Fatdog64-701. Here xvkbd just works. Did xvkbd-3.5-x86_64-1 (in Fatdog's official repo) work for you? Anyway, you may want to file a bug report with the author, his email address is at the end of xvkbd home page. Fatdog's compiled version is built against standard xaw, not xaw3d. Sorry I can't help you more, but I just compiled xvkbd 3.7, I don't actually use it.
