Puppy 2.13beta2 - Bugs
Puppy Video Wizard: rather than the lines having a ( ) type of checkbox, as in all previous Puppies up through 2.10, there is no checkbox i.e. each line just begins with the letter "h". I arrow'ed down to 1024x768 CRT and tapped the space key (nothing changed), then OK.
Next screen: there are duplicate entries for each of the "x24" lines e.g. 1024x768x24. Selected the first 1024x768x24 line and pressed OK.
Briefly there appeared a similar screen as earlier Puppies (**EDITED well, upon subsequent boots it's grown kind of random, just static), then it went away and up came the sky-blue screen with "PUPPY" in stony block letters.
Puppy woofs.
To paraphrase the late Mr. Hussein: Awayyyy I goooooo....

More .... 2.13 B2 Bugs
Bug 2:
Booting problem on IBM Thinkpad X60 and LG TX Express using both CD boot and USB stick boot ...
Making the filesystem usable...
Checking if version update...
Loading kernel modules...Disabling IRQ #11
ldm_validate_partition_table(): Disk read failed.
Good news is that the Universal Installer is working

Bug 3(?)
I think there's something wrong with JWM. Sit Heel Speeks said:
"Briefly there appeared a similar screen as earlier Puppies, then it went away and up came the sky-blue screen with "PUPPY" in stony block letters."
I installed TORSMO and added my usual "/usr/lib/torsmo/torsmo &" line in xinitrc. TORSMO comes up for a brief second during the above screen when everything else was blank, then gets covered up...
I have to manually re-start TORSMO after the main window appears.
aMSN works fine, though - when setup in the same way....
BTW, Happy New Year 2007 to everyone!!

Re: 2.13beta2 - Bugs
That must be an upgrade problem, as it points to rxvt in a pristine 2.13BETA2.John Doe wrote:I'll start this one I guess. I had a lot of sucesses also, which I'm still adding up. I'll post those later.

FRUGAL folly?
Just attempted a FRUGAL upgrade from 2.12 to 2.13b2.
All I did was to replace pup_212.sfs with pup_213.sfs and zdrv_212.sfs with zdrv_213.sfs.
Installation attempted to boot but balked at loading my existing pup_save.3fs file.
Replacing the pup_212.sfs and zdrv_212.sfs allowed the system to boot with that same pup_save.3fs file.
Does this mean that Puppy 2.13b2 won't use my pup_save.3fs and I'll have to start from scratch?
BTW, the 2.12 installation is using Rox 2.5 by default. Puppy 2.13b2 runs like a charm from the LiveCD, too.
Any advice appreciated.

Best way to keep pup_save.2fs settings from beta1?
When upgrading from beta1 to beta2, I downloaded puppy 2.13b2 then copied my beta1 pup_save.2fs onto my flash device.
BTW: The universal installer on 2.13b2 built my USB flash. I have not verified whether the "Dougal enhanced remaster" actually writes the CDR on beta2.
Since I used my pup_save.2fs from my beta1 install, the console pointed to /usr/bin/mrxvt and not /usr/bin/rxvt. Easy fix.
Beta1 correctly configured my X11 parameters to 1280x768x24 which is the native resolution. Beta2 resets to 1024x768 even if I use the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file from beta1. The extra screen resolution with beta1 was nice.
pci bus 0x0001 cardnum 0x05 function 0x00: vendor 0x1002 device 0x5955
ATI Technologies Inc ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)
Now for my main question. What is the best way to retain my configuration settings when upgrading from beta1 to beta2... then to 2.13 final. Would be nice to retain my wireless adapter, cups printer settings etc between versions.
PS--For all of the above I used my Compaq V2000Z Turion64 laptop

"If you already have a pup_save.3fs file, and want to mount it as ext2, just rename the file to pup_save.2fs."
HTH. WhoDo: now repay me. That gorgeous desktop of yours: what WM, what icons, what theme?

Now that is a strange one - in 2.12, I had the sameSit Heel Speak wrote:Not shutting off. Goes to "The system is halted. Press Reset or turn off power

and just sits there.
in 2.13 beta and beta 2 the system shuts off
from what I remember the 2.12 betas shut off
BUT the final lost it again
So just to note in Beta pristine it is working on my Duron 1200 mhz system . . .
Sit Heel Speak,
can you try booting from cd with the "puppy pfix=noram" boot option
and then shutting down
- to confirm

I've never heard of any screen using that resolution before. I have modified the Wizard so now recognises it.Beta1 correctly configured my X11 parameters to 1280x768x24 which is the native resolution. You can continue to use an existing pup_save.3fs. Where does it state otherwise?Sit Heel Speak wrote:According to Barry, writing atWhoDo wrote:Does this mean that Puppy 2.13b2 won't use my pup_save.3fs and I'll have to start from scratch?...Any advice appreciated.

I have noticed a problem with MUT. It brings up an error box, even after a cold boot, somthing about problems mounting a HPFS drive. It does however mount the drive and I'm able to view and run files. MUT no longer gives an option to unmount the drive though.
It also wouldn't let me save any files to hdb1 but I could to hdb5.

I can't get it to work and it's from a brand new iso burn of 2.13b2 that I downloaded last night around midnight.BarryK wrote:Works for me.smokey01 wrote:Not sure if this has been reported, I couldn't find a report.
The calender no longer works in 2.13b2.

I am also running it from the live-cd. It used to work fine for me in 2.12.

Thanks for trying, SHS. No joy though.Sit Heel Speak wrote:HTH. WhoDo: now repay me. That gorgeous desktop of yours: what WM, what icons, what theme?
Window manager is Icewm-Ultra, theme is Vista_Black (modified slightly), wallpaper is Moonlight and icons are mostly KDE-Crystal-Shining with some OS-K all available for download from http://www.kde-look.org. Glad you like it!
I've been thinking seriously about putting together an icon theme package for Puppy 2.xx, but time is the killer. We'll see ... as I used to tell my kids.
Cheers
Thanks for adding 1280x768
