Librepup 6.0.2.2

#262 Post by Billtoo »

Booting from DVD with a savefile on usb-3.0 hard drive.
Looks good, will test more later.
Thanks.

Edit: I installed kdegames, conky, abrowser, and a few other application
with PPM.
Abrowser crashes at youtube.ca but Qupzilla works fine, I have
the flashplayer plugin installed.

It's working well.

Updated from 6.0.2.1 Ok but looks like trimming went too far.
Qupzilla fails to run.
First it complains that libhunspell is missing and after getting it from the repo fails with

Code: Select all

qupzilla: symbol lookup error: qupzilla: undefined symbol: _ZN8QupZilla7VERSIONE
:?
BTW the trisuel package database is outdated.
More tomorrow.

Quick frugal install. Updated databases and tried to install inxi....PPM failed.

And no,clicking on the free memory applet didn't help.

On a fresh install, qupzilla and everything else I checked works fine. :D
Should be some left over from the update of the 6.0.2.1 build.
James C wrote:rebooted again and the PPM decided to work
That's why it says "rare event" :D
Has nothing to do with PPM though. Is a pup_event issue that some(rare)times fails to report the free space, so PPM will not take the risk

Qupzilla crashes very often (news papers etc.)

#271 Post by oui »

Qupzilla crashes very often (news papers etc.). I would prefer because that xombrero. It can be installed from depository from Trisquel (not as xombrero but as xxxterm, like in Ubuntu!) but present the same actual problems as in all other newer Puppys: Extremly large border around all entry fields for selections like favicons (in that forum) and other editor entries so that you sometimes can read nothing around such entry fields...

An idea how to eliminate such borders (prevent that this happen or eliminate all borders! It would also be a way...)?

Are perhaps some *.pets or, better, *.sfs available for xombrero for the modern system libraries?

second problem on Librepup:

like in the most other Puppy's, the access et quitting in Librepup is not logic:

not all puppyist's are happy with save files but nothing will be do to change only minimal details to permit them to accede and quit puppy easily:

a - the two invitations windows after first start would better be time controlled and desappear after a waiting loop from ... seconds!

b - the default value after exit would better "no save file": it is no problem for those willing to use a save file to change the selection to "yes" ONCE (after that will the question never appear any more) better as to force those users not willing to use them each time they restart or quit puppy to change the default selection: it is an abusive inconsequence and can be eliminate easily for all future in Woof / WoofCE/FreeWoofCE!

same thing with the keyboard table: that is absurd! Why those rolling tables? I know what kind of keyboard I am using: It is printed at the backside of my separate keyboard or on the box of my laptop! Why not to use an entry field directly? Swiss people did be the first people in the world to realize Internet but are excluded in tables of Puppy since more than 10 years in the most tables  of the most number of Puppy's where other NON OFFICIAL languages (French catalan in Librepup   etc.) are today to be found without difficulty! And as unlogic is also, don't to use the keyboard variant field because of those rolling countries or keyboards table: An direct entry field would solve that problem immediately: you enter only 7 little chars, for ex. "us intl", and all is immediately correct...

wifi

#273 Post by sheldonisaac »

.. possible to build "almost libre" puplets - i.e Librepup with a non-free kernel, to support WiFi cards that need non-free firmware..
I'm an old user who hasn't done building, compiling, etc

I just put in an Intel card to replace the Broadcom; still not seen.

So if some kind person wants to help, I'd be grateful.

Thanks,
Sheldon

That is a non-free kernel, I guess (unless you used Linux-libre). This is not a solution for users that care about their freedom.

Again, as I said in the first post: people, please don't offer or recommend non-free software.

Intel cards require non-free firmware too. Personally, I use the Atheros AR9285 on my Thinkpad and an AR9271 dongle on my other laptops.

Personally, I like the freedom of having Wifi work ootb so this creates a conflict, as I sincerely like Librepup and respect what you're trying to accomplish.

Also, I'm not sure if it was mentioned but I noticed IDLE in the menu was not working.

Kind regards,

Librepup 6.0.2.2

#279 Post by Billtoo »

I did a manual frugal install to a usb-3.0 hard drive, pc is an HP
desktop.

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Fri 30 Oct 2015 on Librepup 6.0.2.2 Linux 3.14-librepup i686
2.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
oem: Intel(R) Sandybridge/Ivybridge Graphics Chipset Accelerated VGA BIOS
product: Intel(R) Sandybridge/Ivybridge Graphics Controller Hardware Version 0.0

X Server: Xorg Driver: intel
X.Org version: 1.17.1
dimensions: 3840x1080 pixels (1013x285 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Desktop x86/MMX/SSE2
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 10.5.9

I have a laptop that has wireless supported but it has an ATI graphics
card and I couldn't find any way to get 1600x900 resolution so can't
use it on there.

I needed to update PPM before I could download applications.

It's working well on this pc.

Thanks.

Today my friend loaned/gave me a card from a broken computer, and it works with Librepup.
Also a USB adapter, and it too works.
