Chinese Half-pets and Spanish Accented Characters
Hi all,
I use the Spanish keyboard layout (es_spain) as my default keyboard, though I generally leave the interface in English. I also need to use Chinese on a regular basis, and in the past I have achieved this, through some trial and error, on Slacko 5.3.3. With Slacko 5.7 (32-bit) and now 6.3.0 (64-bit), however, I've run into an issue that I just can't quite solve. After installing the Chinese half-pet that corresponds to the distribution, I am no longer able to type using accented characters (with the exception of the ñ) regardless of what changes I make in either the default keyboard configuration or the IME configuration. If I type the '´' key that should be depressed prior to typing the vowel I wish to accent, it appears as though I have typed nothing, and if I press the vowel key, it appears as a regular unaccented character.
Just a footnote: I did have this working on Slacko 6.3.0 (32-bit), but I had another issue with it and decided to try a frugal install on the hdd of my (64-bit) machine.

Thanks. I ended up just eliminating puppy from my machine and using a 32bit frugal install on a USB drive. With the 32 bit I didn't have the problem, and the performance differential doesn't seem to be enough to make worthwhile attempting to run the 64bit version from my hard drive. I didn't see your response prior to deleting it, however, so I can't say if that fix would work. I can tell you, however, that the system was actually changing keyboard, as the ñ was working after making the switch. Also, hitting the ´ key (to type accent characters) also did not produce the ´ symbol, which is the expected behavior with the Spanish keyboard (prior to pressing a vowel, for example). So the problem did not seem to be an issue with the keyboard failing to switch. Still, I wish I had tried your suggested approach before throwing in the towel.
