@ rg66, Geoffrey.

Okay; fair enough. I'll uninstall the one I have, then dig out the Carolina version (I do know where the repo is for that!) I'll give it a try, and let you know how it makes out.

Cheers, guys.

@rg66, Geoffrey.

Nice one, guys! The Carolina xfce4-weather-plugin does indeed work in 2.3.2. I didn't know which one I actually wanted, so I downloaded all three. Started off with the newest one, with the intention of working backwards if I encountered any problems.

Needn't have bothered. Worked like a charm..! I shall have to remember this; I'm guessing this means that some of the other XFCE stuff in the Carolina repo will also work with 2.3.2, on account of it using the older version of the desktop, yes?

Anyway; much appreciated, guys. Cheers!

If anyone wants the last stable release of avidemux, i've uploaded a slackware derived pet here:

avidemux-2.6.10-i486.pet.

It needs QT4. I'm using Pemasu's qt-4.8.2.sfs.

@rg66:-

I've got a query.....and this is something I didn't even realise till a couple of days ago, despite having run X-Slacko 2.3.2 for several months now.

Besides using this one, I'm also using vanilla 570, which this is based on (plus the other Pups in my sig.....each in its own partition). It appears that X-Slacko has installed its save-folder into 570's partition (alongside 570's save-file). It's running sweet as a nut (no problems there; each partition has got bags of space).....but does anybody have any ideas as to why it's gone and done that? Might it have something to do with them both using the same identical kernel?

Just curious, that's all..!

@ Mike

Not sure why that happened. First save is done by /usr/sbin/shutdownconfig, must be getting something wrong.

Hi, rg66.

Okay. Answer me this one, if you will. If I move the xslackosave folder out of 570's partition, and back into the correct one (i.e., X-Slacko's), what exactly will happen? I've got a fairly good idea that all the paths will be wrong, and that just about everything will need resetting.....or will it?

I would like to re-organise that, and get things where they ought to be, but.....just how much work am I letting myself in for?

Just did a test and it wasn't as hard as I thought. I copied my save dir from sda1 to sda2 and renamed the original (backup). Ran blkid from terminal to get the uuid of sda2 and changed that in grub4dos menu.lst. Booted straight away and am posting from it now.

Some "special" files from the save won't copy (from /var I think) but they should be remade.

Only problems so far were broken symlinks for .mozilla and .skype which I keep on a different partition for all my saves.

Edit: Had to copy all my sfs's to the new partition for them to load on start up. This was easier than running SFS-load and reloading them all.

A fix for "Open terminal here" right click custom action in directories with white spaces.

Open Thunar > Edit > Configure custom actions, highlight "Open Terminal Here" > edit.

Replace

Code: Select all

terminal --working-directory=$PWD
with
terminal --working-directory="`echo "$PWD" | sed 's/ /\\ /'`"
Click OK to save.

I've decided to get off my lazy arse and start working on X-slacko-4. Beta 1 should be out in a day or two (hopefully).

Ya, I know. With 6.0.5 out, I might have to start over

Will have a think about it after X-slacko-4.0 is released. X-tahr was kind of a nightmare to build.

A shame it was a pain -- it really is great stuff. I'm using it right now and not only does it run on dang near everything, but it's super stable for what's labeled as a beta ;)

Yea, I run 1b3 alongside 3.1n on all the Pentium Ms and the one Bay Trail box I have farmed out. Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Both completely stable over a fairly long time with user users. Some have even ventured to use the menu :) thanks to whiskermenu.

Luckily, Xfce hasn't updated much since 1b3. If I don't have to compile anything it shouldn't be too much trouble. I'll put X-tahr-1.0 on the to do list after X-slacko-4.0 is out. :(

Back on topic, Geoffrey is going to help with some things and X-slacko-4b1 should be out in a few days. It's running quite nicely, only a few minor issues.

Aw, shucks. I'll gladly help test if it makes that frown go away...

X-slacko-4a2

I've uploaded a 4a1 ISO for Geoffrey to help with bug fixes. If anyone else wishes to help, or just check it out, you can download X-slacko-4a1.iso here: http://smokey01.com/rg66/X-slacko/testing then download X-slacko-4a1.iso___X-slacko-4a2.iso.delta and use Xdelta in the utility menu to make X-slacko-4a2.iso
