Opera 9.10 dotpup (and others)
Opera 9.10 dotpup (and others)
The Puppy software repositories used to have programs like Opera and Firefox 2.0. It looks like someone recently cleaned the repos up and removed dead links, but now software like the above browsers is gone.
Is there an Opera 9.10 dotpup somewhere that I can use? I got Firefox working by downloading it from the Mozilla site.

firefox-2.0.pup
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Internet/
It is from Todds website I think.
Latest Opera at dotpups.de is
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Internet/opera-9.02.pup
There was no newer there yet I think.
I think both are outdated, Todd already released Firefox 2.0.0.1
Jup:

I'll update it on dotpups.de, too.
For Muppy006:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Muppylinux/Mu ... pgrade.pup
Upgrades to 2.0.0.1 and adds mplayerplugin.

I can't tell you which opera currently works best, you might use trial and error.

Opera 9.10 ... ?
I tried to install Opera 9.10, on puppy 2.10, following the procedure as stated, but it will not start up?
I then downloaded Opera 9.02 as a standalone and it works good, but I am trying to get to the latest version. I had even tried copying the extracted 9.10 into the 9.02 folder, but that doesn't work either??
Any ideas as to why 9.02 works fine, but 9.10 doesn't start up, huh?
It seems like there may be somewhere that I can tell puppy 2.10, that I want to use Opera 9.10 instead of Opera 9.02, like with the defaultbrowser statement for seamonkey and mozilla start, huh?
I notice also, that for some reason, the Opera in menu>dotpups is the 9.02 Opera. I am reluctant to delete that until I can get Opera 9.10 to replace it, as if I remove it, I may not get Opera 9.02 to work again, huh?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you must install QT from the dotPET downloader for my Opera dotpup to work. I installed QT and my dotpup from a fresh install of Puppy 2.13, so that should work.
I suspect a version of QT is bundled in with the Opera 9.02 dotpup, but my Puppy skills aren't ready to do that kind of thing yet.

thanks for your reply,
1) i went to consolewindow and typed in which opera
20 it said: usr/local/bin/opera
3) I typed in opera
4) it said: ERROR: ld.so: object 'libjvm.so' from LD PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libawt.so' from LD PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
5) a few minutes, then opera 9.02 loaded

please post the content of /usr/local/bin/opera
If you installed the 9.10 dotpup, it should look like this:
Mark
If you installed the 9.10 dotpup, it should look like this:
Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
cd "/usr/local/opera-9.10-20061214.6-shared-qt.i386-en-521"
"/usr/local/opera-9.10-20061214.6-shared-qt.i386-en-521/opera" "$@"
There seems to be a conflict between the two versions of Opera. As MU said, the directory should be specified. If you're using a desktop icon, you can edit it's properties and make the executable the one for Opea 9.10, and everything should be fine.
Sorry that I couldn't make the dotpup handle this better, but it's my first one, and I made it using the DotPup creation wizard MU linked to, so I have no idea how any of the menuing and executable assignment works to make it work better.

Opera 9.10 dotpup (and others) ... ?
I tried various things, such as copying the contents of opera 9.10
directory to the opera 9.02 directory and also just tried the dotpup wizard MU6,
... tried changing the properties of the icon to exec from the opera 9.10 directory, etc.
all to no avail. I guess I should just wait until
I get the puppy 2.13 distro, huh?
