LxPupSc-16.05.2.iso with kernel 4.6.0

#264 Post by peebee »

Kernel is 4.6.0-lxpup using the same configuration as 666philb uses for xenialpup

Slackware-current updates to Fri May 20 21:20:29 UTC 2016

Rerwin's new frisbee-1.4 is included but you need to install his connect-updates .pet to see the gprs function in the connection setup wizard + his pgprs .pet if you want to use gprs connections

LxPupSc - Woof-CE, Slackware-current, LXDE experiment

#265 Post by Billtoo »

I did a manual frugal install to the hard drive of my lenovo desktop pc:

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Sat 21 May 2016 on LxPup-Sc 16.05.2 Linux 4.6.0-lxpup-32-pae i686
0.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] (rev a1)

X Server: Xorg Driver: nouveau
X.Org version: 1.18.3
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (507x285 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: nouveau
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on NVC1
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.2

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Core 0: @2003 1: @2003 MHz

I have a few problems, the devx doesn't work but I found that pets made
in X-Slacko-4.1 work (deadbeef-072,smplayer/smtube).

I installed kpat and a couple of other games with PPM, it took ages and
when I went to run it it was missing libpulse, and gdbm dependencies (
I compiled the missing dependencies in X-Slack-4.1) and it's working
now.
I added gkrellm with PPM but compiled a couple of plugins for it in
X-Slacko, the second line from the bottom is counting down the number
of days until Christmas :)

The devx that I tried was the one from LxPup-sc 16.05.1 which I
renamed.

Will the kernel source sfs + a proper devx but made available for this
kernel?

Thanks

I did a new manual frugal install and loaded the devx and kernel source sfs but the proprietary nvidia driver wouldn't compile, also tried compiling another source file and the devx errs out, seems it has the same problem as the last one.

Here's a part of the nvidia installer log:

Hi Billtoo

You are correct the build and source links in /lib/modules/4.6.0-lxpup-32-pae are wrong

They should both link to /usr/src/linux

The problem is in the zdrv - so I'll have to rebuild and reupload....done...

Cheers
PeeBee

p.s. this seems to be a problem with the first issue of a kernel series....

Hi Billtoo

An error like:
configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check

usually means that the kernel_headers need to be installed....I've uploaded them to:

kernel_headers-4.6.0-lxpup.pet

I don't know why the nvidia compile has failed....are there any other clues in the log files? Have you searched to see if there are any reported problems building 364.19 for k4.6? Not unknown for new kernels to break nvidia drivers!! :?

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... ernel-4-6/

There is a later 367.18 driver ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/ if it supports your chip??

UPDATE 27-may-16:
After applying further patches - I got my nvidia 304.131 driver to compile and install.

Cheers

it works.

#277 Post by Marv »

Delta downloaded, md5sum of generated iso correct. Manual frugal install to core 2 duo iwlwifi i915 laptop. 16.05.2 savefile updated. Up and used 24 hrs now, no issues at all in simple daily use. Glxgears FPS stellar. Browsers in use are Opera 12.16, and your latest chromium SFS. I just rename the adrv to hide it for my use. I have run gyros enhanced init scripts in both LxPupSc 16.05.2 and in LxPupXenial 16.05.1 just enough to see that my script that adds ignore=usb capability to initrd.gzs is still ok with them. It is in both cases and boots were normal (none of the enhanced capabilities used).
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Peebee,

I dl'd your LXPUPSC 16.05.2 ISO to a regular flashdrive frugal install.

In terminal mode (lxterminal), I get 1 warning in the following line.

find / -iname Xorg.0.log
... WARNING hard link count is wrong ... /proc/fs...

Probably a minor "nuisance type" bug that needs swatting.

Hi @wyzguy

Thanks for reporting - don't think it's just an LxPupSc error as it manifests in LxPup-15.11 as well - have opened a new thread to see if anybody can help....

Hi,
A bit of feedback:

In common with many distros using MPlayer,
any Preference changes made don't stick
after closing and re-launching.

There is only a close button at the bottom of the applet.
What's really needed with the close button is a Save
button as a confidence booster.

Regards.
