No sound, Slacko 6.3.0 and Slacko 64
No sound, Slacko 6.3.0 and Slacko 64
I seem to have frequent sound problems.
I have no sound from any player in both Slacko 6.3.0 or Slacko 64.
How can I diagnose the problem ?

Sound card selected to use?
Check adjustments in Retrovol. by right click on speaker icon, select full window.
Using what to provide sound?
Internal speakers, headset, what?
No sound usually indicates the wrong sound device is selected to use.
Multiple Sound Card Wizard.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Cable from line out goes to a Logitech amplifier and speakers.
I have tried every card that the card wizard shows.
Code: Select all
card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 0: ALC887-VD Analog [ALC887-VD Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 1: ALC887-VD Digital [ALC887-VD Digital]

Card 0 was for HDMI which is not hooked up.rcrsn51 wrote:Your list above only shows a card 1. Does that mean that there is no card 0?
Has sound worked in other Puppies? Do they show a card 0?
Sound is provided by line out going to some external speakers and amp.

I had the same problem with slacko 64 using hdmi output to my beloved Bravia TV. By trial and error, I got it to work. I googled "puppy linux multiple sound card problems" which produced two posts from this forum. One explained how to select the correct card by right clicking the sound icon and then choosing the "hardware" tab and changing the soundcard number. Another explained how to change the configuration because apparently, with multiple sound cards, a random number can be assigned the each card on each boot.
In short - the problem is almost certainly fixable unless it's an actual hardware fault. I'm sure more knowledgeable users can help you more if you give them a bit more detail.

Sure you got what is needed selected?
Not sure, but maybe line needs selected and turned up.
