Upgrading from 7.0.1
Hi people
I'm a new puppy user (but loads of ubuntu experience). I've started using 7.0.1
and would like to upgrade to 7.0.3. I can't seem to find any generic documenation on how do to it
Do I just download the iso and copy the two new sfs files to usb (where I've a frugal install) and then update grub4dos?
Thanks
Andy

Re: Upgrading from 7.0.1
I never do an upgrade, I always do a fresh frugal install.vancheese wrote:Do I just download the iso and copy the two new sfs files to usb (where I've a frugal install) and then update grub4dos
But if you want to upgrade your frugal install, you need to copy more than 2 files.
You should replace all the ".sfs" files and "vmlinuz" and "initrd.gz".
Your grub4dos "menu.lst" would normally not need to be changed.

After upgrade to 7.0.3 no wireless connection detected.

Works fine in version 7.0.1

It will update the save on first boot-up.
I would hold off going to Xenial 7.0.3 until this problem with wireless networking gets resolved.

If you update Xenial 7.0.1 to Xenial 7.0.3
You will probably have to rerun Grub4dos config or manually edit the menu.lst entry to say:

Both 7.0.3 and 7.0.1 work well here on my 10 year old Dell towers.
Tahrpup also works quite well. I get the feeling of "mature" pups and
Linux itself, though it's disappointing that you (Phil) had to drop down
in kernel #.
I gauge maturity simplistically. I no longer run into snags getting
video and sound. Printer/scanners now have a good chance of working.
My old Linksys PCI wireless adapter no longer requires a work-around
for a bug somewhere (apparently in kernels since Ubuntu and others
also had the bug). My Microsoft LX300 usb headset works. So I'm a
happy camper nowdays, especially with Xenial and Tahrpup Like so
many have said, thanks so much for your efforts!

version 7.0.7 dowloading.. Linux 4.6.3
Dotmund i like.
Tahr in multiboot is tahrbang. I now include a Puppy Precise in my multiboots because FFmpeg included; Puppy 4 are for remember how light and fast were puppies of the past.
I changed my mind : version 7.0.3 is garbled, desktop frozen
Version 64 bits replaces 7.0.3 in my multiboot pendrive. Ah everything working first try. Unless further usage . But first start , nothing bad.
What is appreciated compared with some different puppy-builds
Ready for use for home usage, Palemoon does not need to be replaced. The ISO size is the size user will load in RAM. Wireless connection is easy. PPM has new applications, to renew the passenger menu. Desktop is nice.
Of course, screenshot is no longer valid, 7.0.7 is the version running.
PPM tested by dowloading Midori 0.5.11 (only for test, palemoon is enough). Package and dependencies installed without trouble. Midori 0.5.11 always has trollitos around the windows when sending a message, that is an information for Midori testers..

Testing Xenialpup CE 7.0.3
The current script in /root/Startup/pmcputemprun seems broken (dangling fi).
Also, if the user switches to a panel other than JWM, the temperature utility still loads even when not requested by the alternate panel.
To load pmcputemp only in JWM, the script could look something like this:

3G Modem
Hi all,
Thought I would give 7.0.3 a go, had lots of problems with 7.0.1.
After initial problems with set up boxes not being correctly displayed or titled I got 7.0.3 set up and installed on a USB dongle.
However I am unable to get my Huawei E1750 USB modem to work.
I tried both inserting the dongle after boot up and on boot up, both failed.
The indicator light on the dongle does flash bright blue indicating it has been recognised. But going through the normal set up routine, after pressing the Probe icon, no modem is found.
Looking in the messages log there are a load of ACPI warnings.
One quite interesting stating;" A4 warning fotg210_hcd should always be loaded before uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd, not after"
And more pertinent to 3G modems: " daemon_err_kernel:udev[23358] failed to execute '/etc/udev/mtp-probe' '/etc/udev/mtp-probe /sys/devices/pci1000:' "
There is no /etc/udev/mtp-probe file.
Hope this is of some use.
I am posting this from tahrpup, on my Lenovo U310 laptop.

Hi 666philb,
Manual frugal install to fat32/f2fs USB-3 stick with Syslinux 4.04 boot.
Initial boot to desktop with working ethernet & sound.
Additional firmware had to be installed to get Bluetooth & WiFi working (See screenshot)
I was unable to get sensors working in Hardinfo despite loading additional kernel modules
and lm-sensors.
This Pup is subjectively very fast and gave a blowfish score of 2.89 which is the best I have ever seen.
Pale Moon was updated to 26.4.0 and seems much improved. In particular the Firefox add-on
"Complete YouTube Saver 5.6.70" works well once it has been pointed at /usr/bin/ffmpeg
Pets/Packages Installed:
Billtoo reported that Kodi 15.2 failed to launch. I also saw that but it is due to a bug in the Ubuntu version
that was introduced on or around 3rd August. The fix is to create a file with the following content:
FbBox-4.0 works well but in common with WoofQ Pups needs some minor changes to dbus operation if correctly working
dbus is required by any apps. With the default JWM there are no issues with dbus.
