QtWeb 3.8.5
QtWeb 3.8.5
There's an updated version (3.8.5) of QtWeb out:
http://qtweb.net/download.html
Would love to have a new .pet for this! Many thanks!

Hello, mechmike.
You don't need a pet. Simple as pie:
Simply download the zip archive,
unzip it, say, under /opt,
make it executable, and that's it.
Optional:
drag the QtWeb executable in /opt as a link to ~/my-applications/bin
make a QtWeb.desktop file in /usr/share/applications using the SeaMonkey.desktop file as a template.
The problem is elsewhere.
With what version of Puppy will you be using QtWeb?
In wary 5.5, for example, forget it, it's a no-go, because wary 5.5 is missing too many libraries that QtWeb requires to run.
Now if some Puppyist had the extreme patience on this beautiful Sunday
morning to go library hunting and create a supplemental pet package for
this new QtWeb... it would be nice.
Maybe try this new QtWeb on other Puppy versions to see what gives?
BFN.

I did attempt to get it going, plus did a little research...
I tried to make it work. I downloaded it, and followed the directions in BK's blog:
# unzip QtWeb-elf386.zip
# chmod 755 QtWeb
# ./QtWeb
The last command aborts, so your theory about missing dependencies definitely has some merit. I am no command line whiz by any means but am trying to learn as I go.
I tried it on Precise 5.7.1 plus on the previous Precise build. I have two USB drive installs of Puppy, plus a full install of 5.7.1 on a Dell Latitude 131L laptop.
The previous .pet (http://bkhome.org/blog2/?viewDetailed=00329) worked pretty well.

a build 108 pet found!
I've found a pet of build-108, showing ver. as 3.8.4, but featured as same as version 3.8.5.
-- compiled from source of build 108 (Sep 11), on Puppy Linux 431JP2012.
-- Qt-library statically combined.
-- having same features as 3.8.5, e.g., Shift-JIS encoding supported.
pet url : http://insurance.tf-bank.net/50MB/dl/1379019111.pet
WebPage(Japanese): http://nnit.web.fc2.com/puppy/puppy_p16.htm
You can download pet and rename it, e.g., QtWeb-b108.pet.

Re: a build 108 pet found!
Thanks for the link, it runs fine in Puppy Precise 5.7.1
There is a problem with the Import Bookmarks menu in QtWeb 3.8.4 when using the menu File > Import Bookmarks
The import bookmarks dialog box does not see the file to be imported, in my case it was the bookmarks.html file I exported from Firefox. The dialog box looks in /root/ by default - so that is where I told Firefox to create the file named bookmarks.html
The solution to this was to manually type in the file name (mine was named bookmarks.html ) into the "File name:" window of the "Open File" dialog box, then hit <Enter> on your keyboard. It then imports the bookmarks file into the QtWeb bookmarks.

I am running version 3.8.4
Import bookmarks : i would be happy when that will be my purpose, it would mean QtWeb is installed.
I am running version 3.8.4, default browser of unicornopen by hungarian Franz, high school Puppy lover. Europe is a fishpond of talentuous Puppy developers, hidden cause of ignorance of english language.
Soy como perdido con los bookmarks (same remark as Perdido for bookmarks import)
Pero, but, mais openfile permet d'ouvrir le fichier html de votre sauvegarde bookmarks. Open file (your bookmarks html) allows you to open saved adress. It's not perfect, but it works...
"HTML 5, CSS, Frames, JavaScript, Cookies, Bookmarks, History, Passwords, Mouse Gestures, Media content - all essential browser features are here
Web Inspector allows to view and inspect HTML elements, debug JavaScript, view loading time and profile resources
Supported FTP browsing and downloading
AutoFill option - stores and pre-populates user names and passwords for the sites you visit most
With Qt 4.6 supported Netscape Plug-Ins, like Adobe Flash Player, QuickTime and MediaPlayer" enjoys the official Qt site.

Official method about importing bookmarks
To copy bookmarks to QtWeb from another web browser:
Open the web browser that has the bookmarks you want to copy to QtWeb.
Find the web browser's Export Bookmarks option, and choose it. The Export Bookmarks option is normally in the File menu.
Save the bookmarks as an HTML file; for example, "bookmarks.html".
Open QtWeb and choose File > Import Bookmarks > Import from HTML...
Double-click the HTML file you created.
One could believe it untill trying it.

Hello All.
The browser I am using to write this is Firedog but I do use the older version of QtWeb which is available on this forum. I cannot find a way of downlaoding QtWeb from http://insurance.tf-bank.net/50MB/dl/1379019111.pet. Is anybody having the same problem and if not can anybody tell me how they did it.
Regards,
Ken.
I'm also having trouble posting.

The problem is the space between .pet and [/url]keniv wrote:Hello All.

Remove that and your post appears normally.
Oscar in England
Thanks for that Oscar Talks. I have not had this problem before. I tried to post using different Puppies and three different browsers but copied and pasted the text which presumably explains why I could not post. Preview would not work at all. I'll try editing my original post to see if it shows. I am still stuck as to why I can't download QtWeb using the link given.
Regards,
Ken.
Original post is now showing. I can't see a way of deleting my second try. If a kind moderator could do this for me I would be obliged. Sorry for any confusion I might have created.

It seems that the temporary file bank is still broken
I downloaded both QTWeb3.8.4 & QTWeb3.8.5 from the temporary file bank, since they seem to be no longer available I am hosting those files at the following url's
QTWeb 3.8.4 ------> http://www.ibm-pc.org/puppy/QTWeb384/qt ... 6-b108.pet
md5 970e32dbde2f9f4bdf0ba926c4538f80
Renamed from 1379019111.pet by me (made better sense at time)
As originally downloaded from http://insurance.tf-bank.net/50MB/dl/1379019111.pet , same md5 just renamed file.
QTWeb 3.8.5 ------> http://www.ibm-pc.org/puppy/QTWeb385/1421268933.pet
md5 4ba727b1183a4b8e1bc282fcfba2a4c9
As originally downloaded from http://insurance.tf-bank.net/50MB/dl/1421268933.pet
Cannot install 3.8.5
3.8.4 from preceding link downloads (with Opera) as .gz which I can rename to .pet and install. 13MB. /usr/local/bin/QtWeb works.
3.8.5 will not install. About 32MB.
Could these be added to package manager list?

A bit late, but I think I am running 385 and not 386 on waryBabybarebones 5.1, without dep issues.musher0 wrote: The problem is elsewhere.

Edited:Correction: I am running 385 (latest one) on Tahr and 384 on Wary. There is no 386.
So you should choose the proper QtWeb version.

What is the difference between 3.8.4 and 3.8.5
QtWeb 3.8.4 installed in ISO Slegopen (Slacko 32 bits) . You Tube not yet tested.
QtWeb 3.8.4 accepted by You Tube. One of my vidéos is being processed by Youtube (contrast +1). You can do as Openshot, without openshot.
That is an advantage to take in account when you choose a browser.
What is the difference between 3.8.4 and 3.8.5, to know if i miss something ?
Medor will provide pet QtWeb to people asking for it here, forum francophone, for people speaking french, and others. (compiled for Slaxen, the newer Slacko of Toutou Linux Team)

You actually do not need a pet.
You can keep your QtWeb outside the pupsave, so you can use 1 QtWeb for several installations.
There is an archive on this page :
http://qtweb.net/update.html
There is also a long list of changes for every update there. I guess the reason for one version of QtWeb working or not working in this or that puppy version must be in that list. But I am no techie.
Maybe the change of the Qt Framework could be a reason? Btw, the version of QtWeb refers to the version of the QT Framework.
