After some heavy searching i found this one in the forums, so i copied and pasted it here as it seems it can still be a problem.
Closed the tab so cant give cred cause dont remember username, will do when i find it.
Anyhow, this rough download install of these files fixed it for me
Normally, alsactl init command will return a message like this:

Hardware is initialized using a generic method

... just remembered about *glibc vulnerability*, if you haven't done so already, first install these two essential packages:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise-updates/libc6
