with wordviewer I get the same result, while k-meleon installs (but does not work correct).
http://www.5star-shareware.com/Windows/ ... nload.html

So I removed /root/.wine , and installed this /root/.wine instead, as it includes some DLLs:
http://dotpups.de/files/Wine-0.9.19-MU-drive_c.pup

Now the error is much shorter, but it still crashes.
sh-3.00# wine wd97vwr32.exe
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x7e9ffd80 at address 0xb7f3e49e (thread 0010), starting debugger...
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0xb7f3e49e
sh-3.00#
Maybe copying some DLLs from a real windows might solve that.

ah, installation works now, but not wordview itself.

made several things, so not shure.
I think this did it:
Installed the drive_c pup from above.

typed
winecfg

Go to "Grafics"
remove the [x] at double buffering.
Set direct 3D to emulation.

Go to "applications" , select Windows XP.

Now the installer starts, but it seems to hang. I've read somewhere, it is just extremely slow (go drink a coffee), so I will wait if something happens in the next 30 minutes.

I also chose to use some native libraries in "Libraries", but that did not solve the crashes before, so I think you can ignore that.

*edit* ok, installation finished after 10 minutes.

running wordview shows only the splashscreen, then the debugger starts.

After seeing your posts I gave it a shot and I have managed to get Word Viewer 97 working. The only difference from your posts is that I left DirectX as normal and set the system at Windows 98, not XP. To keep it from going through that ridiculously long installation "search", I deleted the symlink "z:" to the root directory in /root/.wine/dosdevices. This meant it searched only "c:" (i.e. /root/.wine/drive-c) and therefore was finished quickly.

And what do you know, after that it worked :-). Got one other app to run as well with a lot of similar tweaking (the freeware game Noctis IV CE). Still no luck with fastcheck or Word Viewer 03, though. Thanks a lot for your help, Mark.

ah fine, good idea to remove z:
I let it point to a non-existing folder during wordview-setup.

I tried it again now.
I deleted /root/.wine that I had installed from my dotpup.
Ran winecfg again, changed z: , then I've set Windows98 as standardversion.
Deactivated the direct-X options, maybe this depends on your graficscard.

Now it installed in some seconds and wordview runs :D
