Brave browser is multiplatform, including Linux, and promising privacy first, and money-making ads secondly, but the kind of ads that are unconspicuous and globally not detrimental to you : no tracking, not even by Brave servers. It is supposed to be a win-win situation : publishers receive bitcoins, and websites and users too. As for users, they have two choices : either keep the bitcoins in exchange for viewing ads, or donating their bitcoins to their prefered websites.
Brave browser would like to make adblockers irrelevant, and pay bitcoins to publishers, websites and users, whereas what we see these days is a war against adblockers and websites being closed because of a lack of ad revenue.
But Brave browser has an uphill battle facing it, Firefox or Chrome users will need more than a bitcoin incentive to change for Brave, and will keep on using adblockers for the forseable future, even if Brave would like this change to happen for the common good.

Brave is a web browser that blocks virtually all internet advertisements and instead, replaces them with a sustainable way to pay for content. Each website you visit, Brave pays for what you would for the viewing of advertisements.
Here is how to download Brave browser (for all Linux OS, including Puppy and Dog) :
wget https://laptop-updates.brave.com/latest/linux64 -O- | tar xj
Brave will extract inside of your home folder. Open it, and double-click on “brave

Quick test of brave 0.12.7
Runs in Tahr64
Runs in Slacko64 6.3.0 but needs libgnome-keyring which is just one simple lib install via PPM.
Pepper Flash plugin libpepflashplayer.so needs to be installed in /usr/lib/pepperflashplugin-nonfree if you want Flash to work.
Twitter and Periscope videos work.
Don't know if Netflix will work if you add libwidevinecdm.so from Chrome. Someone else will need to verify this.

Hi, Oscar.
Thought I'd give this a quick try-out.
Installed (so far) in Slacko64 6.3.0. Installed libgnome-keyring from PPM.
Created folder 'pepperflashplugin-nonfree' in both /usr/lib and /usr/lib64, & symlinked libpepflashplayer.so into both of them, since I never know which of the two Mick has set stuff up to work from; Tahrpup's /usr/lib64 merely sym-links into /usr/lib anyway.
Brave can't find Pepper.....and NetFlix doesn't work, despite sym-linking libwidevinecdm.so into /usr/share/brave. Says it 'can't find all the components needed for NetFlix to run'. So now you know.
Will try it in Tahr64 at some point.
Hope that helps!
Mike.

Hi Mike,
I was in Tahr64 when I got Pepper Flash working. The pepperflashplugin-nonfree directory was under /usr/lib but as you say lib64 is a symlink anyway. There is a setting in brave in the security section which you have to enable to get Flash to work. If the plugin is missing this setting switch is greyed out.
Thanks for trying Netflix. One further quick test might be to try substitution of the libffmpeg.so from Chrome or the vivaldi ffmpeg codecs package from here http://repo.herecura.eu/herecura/x86_64/ but if that doesn't work it may be a no-go.

Hi, Oscar.
Cheers for the info.
Mike.
Ah. I wasn't aware of that. I may try again in Slacko64.....but it'll be tomorrow before I get a chance to try it in Tahr64. I'll keep you posted, anyway.OscarTalks wrote:There is a setting in brave in the security section which you have to enable to get Flash to work. It appears Brave is an active project. The latest version was released 5 days ago.
Perhaps someone would like to play with it over the holidays.
