3D Control Center: Graficscarddrivers
The forum has many messages concerning how to enable accelleration for your graficscard.
This accelleration can be used to watch videos in better quality, or to play games.
The huge amount of postings can be confusing, so now I rewrote the links in the old messages.
Like this you find information for different Puppy-versions in one place:
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... ol-Center/
The files there also can be installed with the PSI software-installer.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=10960
Note for advanced users:
to avoid confusion, only the installers themselves are listed there.
They will download additional files from other folders, like
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups/XServer/
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/3DCC/
You usually will NOT download files manually from there!
If you have questions concerning a program, please post them in the corresponding threads, not here

Accessing 3dcc graphics drivers without being online?
I am attempting to run 3dcc on Puppy v2.02
Graphics card is a S3 Virge.
I have downloaded this file & installed it, but not sure if I am doing things right.
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/3D-Control-Ce ... 0-2.02.pup
It appears that I have to be online in order to download the drivers I need to get acceleration working on my graphics card (?) The computer I am working on is not connected to the internet. So, is there a way of getting 3dcc to work under this scenario?

I tried your suggestion and re-ran 3dcc, but no luck in getting acceleration working.
It seems that the driver is not working. In trying to solve the problem, I had a look around at the files under all of the 3dcc folders. One thing I noticed
under /usr/local/3D-Control-Center/resource/26/DRM, there is no .ko file related to s3v. Is there perhaps some file that may be missing?
Thanks for your help.

Mark:
There are a few newly updated man pages dealing with a S3Virge driver that I am guessing is suppose to work with X.org? See here, for example:
http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man4/s3virge.4.html
There is no explanation, however, where this driver is suppose to be stored within the system, started, or how it works (and I am no X.org expert!)

I presume you mean Puppy 1.04-1.09 with kernel 2.4.29?
Mark does host 3D drivers for that series, but it's a question of finding the right versions ... because Puppy's version of Xorg has changed from 6.8.1 to 7.0 since then, and the kernel has changed 3 times.
I think your DRM/DRI files are here http://dotpups.de/dotpups/XServer/DRI/
You will need -
DRM-Kernelmodules-2.4.pup
dri-i810.pup
OpenGL.pup
2.4 kernels work differently to 2.6 kernels. The only kernel modules you need are agpgart and i810, there is no drm module.
I am using the i810 3D driver under Puppy 2.13 and it works great. I can play TuxRacer on a modest Pentium3-733.

a. servage scammed you. they scammed everyone on this forum, too.
b. on a machine running xp at a very fast speed, i can go full screen with powerdvd, or i can run vlc (foss) in high or realtime (in xp) and ALMOST get as much performance, or i can play the same dvd in gxine in puppy at maybe 400x300ish resolution, and get performance that's almost as good. so i guess what i'm thinking is... if you want to play a dvd on your computer you need windows. or you need to be a linux programmer.
that sucks, but then with all the stuff they do to make dvd's unplayable, it's almost understandable.
still, people should be honest about what puppy can and can't do. honest, or perhaps i should say informed. puppy cannot play dvd's for crap. it just can't. except that there might be a few exceptions to this rule that honestly do not apply to the average person. period.

sadly, it is not possible to separate politics from free software. free software - politics = unfree software.
On my old Ati-card 7500, I could play DVDs in high resolution on a Pentium700.
Windows refused to play them, I think it was a codec-issue.
StarWars, original DVD.
Puppy just by default might not play in high quality, as it has no accelleration-modules.
That is, why it can be so small.
Muppy with all codecs and other luxury weights 200 - 450 MB.
So if you need luxury, but don't want to suffer with installing the rquired dependencies on your own, get one of the blown up puplets.
May the choice be with you

fair retort. if the bloat needed to do it in windows is there, then it's tricky to complain about the bloat needed in versions of puppy that make it easy.
i stand by the rest of course, when it's really not easy for the average person, it shouldn't be claimed that it is. room for opinions on what easy is remains, but still.
of course i'd really rather be using puppy for this, i'd rather be using puppy for everything. i've had a dvd player for a long time, but the equpiment i'm used to just isn't fast enough on any os.
i may have enough equipment and software to get online in linux soon. that would be pretty kickass. then again, with the long history of attempts, i refuse to get my hopes up.
i *did* come a long way for playing with puppy, and i still play with puppy. i've never said otherwise. sometimes i think there's another side to fud tho... a sort of ridiculous overoptimism people have. not sure. anyway, yeah- point for mu. believe me, i still look forward to being rid of windows as much as ever, just to be clear on that.

3d Control Centre - Install Nvidia Driver does nothing
Hi there -
Is it just me or does the option "Install Nvidia Drivers" do nothing in 2.17.1 ?
I click the button - nothing happens.
Is there something I'm missing?
Geforce440mx
2.17.1 Tmxxine Prism

This function is disabled in Ezpup 2.17r2 (which Tmxxine Prism uses) because at the time the Nvidia drivers were not compiled for the new kernelHi there -

Nvidia drivers are available but have not been added to 3DCC - yet
You can install nvidia drivers manually for now

Nothing happening? In the Quantum realm, the act or intent alters the nature of 'Nothing'. It is very difficult to get a true 'Nothing' intentionally.I click the button - nothing happens.
"Everything is possible. Nothing is unreal," as the Dimensional Traveller (Ozmanaught) said to the button . . .

Time Travel
Thanks to lobster for pointing this out.
Odd thing -
I have installed the recommended driver - all seemed well - 50fps in the GLtest last night.
However, this morning (after a reboot) I'm back down to 15 fps.
I also notice (possibly a seperate issue) in the Nvidia Xsrerver Settings Control Pannel (start - system - nvidia xserver settings) that under OPENGL/GLX information I have:
Direct Rendering: No
Is there any way to get direct rendering going under the Nvidia/2.17.1 combo I have here?
Reinstalling the driver, and then gl (both produce errors and the demo winges that GL is not installed - despite the fact that it is) brings me back to 50fps.
If I reboot my machine will I be back at 15fps, and if so - WHY?!

There is no need for 3DCC in Puppy 3.
Puppy3 now has a DRI modules package in PetGet.
Please install that, and OpenGL and libSDL.
Then you will not need 3DCC any longer.
If you want to try propriatary NVidia or Ati drivers, use:
http://dotpups.de/puppy3/dotpups/XServer/
In Muppy008 (based on Puppy 3) 3DCC just remains to run the 3D demo, I deactivated the other points.
For Radeon 7500 to 92xx there is no more support, I was not able to compile 8.2.28 with the new Kernel.
It was very buggy anyway.
The free Radeon drivers are more reliable anyway than the crap from Ati.
If you depend on propriatary Ati-drivers for old Radeon cards, e.g. for Doom3, please install Puppy 108 or 109 CE as a gaming system, with the old 3DCC.
With Kernel 2.4, those drivers are more stable, I could play at least around 1 hour before the computer crashed and I had to reboot.
