How to change my laptop screen's resolution?

#1 Post by Marble42 »

Hi guys,

I am looking for a Puppy linux version that would allow me to change the resolution on my 13.3" laptop. Default resolution is 1920x1080, but that is just too tiny for such a small screen. I can barely see icons and letters :/ The most recent version (6.3) only allows that one resolution :/

Apart from that I only need the system to run the current version of Firefox.

Can something be done here? Or am I doomed? :-)

Use the Xorg Video Wizard in the menu for resolution, you can also change the system font size via the menu

Which version of Puppy are you using? I have only used the Ubuntu based ones like Tahr 6.0.5, etc. 6.3 sounds like Slacko. Perhaps a Slacko user will help.

How about "Terminal" >> fontmanager?

I downloaded Slacko Puppy 6.3, but I don't really like the 'menu on top' thing... Not sure why that was done?

Will download Tahrpup 6.0 now and see if that's any better :-) Will also check the "font size from terminal" thing. Gosh, Linux Mint made me lazy :/

Thanks for your help guys! I really appreciate it! (-:

The menu on top thing is a panel you can easily delete.

Awesome stuff! Thanks guys!

I am currently downloading Fatdog 64 to give it a go. One question - if doing a Frugal USB install, how big is the difference between doing it on a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0? Does a 3.0 with nice writing speeds (say minimum 100mpbs) make the system load faster?

Load(?) as in "boot speed?"

I doubt the reading speed for loading the puppy will be much noticable. Flash 2.0 is quite fast and adequate for running puppy.

I see. Thanks once again @Semme!

I'll just try Fatdog, but eventually I might go back to Slacko again, as long as I can increase the icons size, though overall whether the Frugal install is done via USB 2.0 or 3.0, boot speed isn't altered much, right?

The links I provided will *drastically* improve "Fatdogs" boot time.

The difference between a 2 or 3 stick boot will, for practical purposes, be insignificant.

Perfect! Will read the content in links carefully, then decide if I want to go fat or Slacko (-:

Much obliged!
