Puppy Linux Newsletter
received via facebook and Puppyluver
Puppy Linux newsletter (english version) received via facebook and Puppyluver. what about notecase ? i suppose few of us were using it before
drunkjedi, there is something funny when i see what applications are used with debian/puppy mixture. Sure xhyppo and notecase are not bad apps because they are older than newest (which don't work, broken)... Our Toutou 436 in fact was in advance... Howver they need to be tested. Because there are perhaps rusted I am glad that ours devs come to my policy : 'don't judge relating to the age of things, but how much people can trust them'
Newest versions of notecase will need our passengers to learn it as the older version. I am surprised of how you consider that people know Linux, things that devs are unable to do, they as their passengers do it themselves (compile drivers for instance).
There is an item 'compiling' in Puppy Linux newsletter. You want us to go again at school, we just want to play with our computer. When my english will be perfect, i will go the next step.

Re: Latest newsletter index and sorter app
Sorry about that, greengeek. Fixed and reposted above. What's really annoying is that I caught that error in my own copy of PNI.txt, but forgot to make the correction in the posted copy.Uh oh - doesn't list the April crossword. Shock Horror!
Re: Latest newsletter index and sorter app
How do you assemble the text file? Not manually I hope - that would be a real drag. Is there some way for notecase to export it's index?6502coder wrote: I caught that error in my own copy of PNI.txt....
I just read the newsletter and add records to the index as I go. It's not worth going to the trouble of trying to automate the process, for two reasons: 1) I'm going to read (or at least skim) the whole newsletter anyway, and 2) there's no practical way to automate the creation of the Description field, which I hope users of the index file are finding helpful.
It may not be obvious, since most of the Descriptions are quite brief, but I spend a fair amount of time composing these, so that the average non-expert Puppy user will have some idea what an article is about. When an article deals with a specialized topic, the Title alone can be meaningless to the average user. The Description also provides a place for me to work in keywords that can be picked up in a search, for example using the fields.awk database tool, or even just grep; this enhances the usefulness of the index file.

This is not going to be as simple as I was thinking.smokey01 wrote:@bigpup: lost treasures sounds like a good idea.bigpup wrote:I was thinking of doing a section about the lost Puppy programs.
Something like lost treasurers.
Forgotten Puppy programs.
etc...
Go see what I could find, that was specific programs written for Puppy, but have not usually been in a Puppy version.
I know some really good stuff was written just for Puppy and the Puppy way of operating.
We are Puppy.
Resistance is futile.
You will be assimilated.
What do you think?
A lot of those lost forgotten programs, are so old, they just do not work in the Puppies we now have.
I have found a few good old programs, but the pet packages were made on older Puppies.
The program installs, but will not run.
I found one that I really tried to debug.
When I was finished. I had basically written a new pet package and a new program.
I was not looking to do that, with this idea for an article in the newsletter.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Well, I guess Puppy has developed like other operating systems.
Hard to use stuff made for a really early version in the now newest versions.
Too much code has changed.
I am still looking for some Puppy specific programs, that were great breakthroughs in Puppy simple, clean coding.

Yes, very good!!
Hope we can keep this going.
Any way to get this Newsletter added to the Puppy information on Distrowatch?

I was thinking it should be listed on the main Puppy info page.
Someplace in this section of the page.

+1 on this. It certainly needs more attention.greengeek wrote:If anyone feels up to it could i request an article outlining the general usage of all the x..drvs eg: adrv, zdrv, fdrv etc?
What files would one put where - and why?
BTW, great effort @smokey01.
A lot of good reads, considering lenghty hiatus in using Puppy.
Thanks a lot & keep it up!
i Browsed all multimedia (2016)
eh eh eh pay attention. I was quiet burned when i browsed all multimedia and graphics programs existing in this forum..smokey01 wrote:Off the top of my head I can't remember any really old programs that are better than the newer ones. I may have to crack open some very old iso's to remind myself.
We cannot give the opinion that old programs are all unserviceable.
Some will work on all Puppies, even just born
Some will work on classical puppies as Racy 5.2.2 5.3 5.5 Saluki (smokey know them)
Some work on some puppies (rare) , i cannot give explanations.
Each time i post the result, ignoring flames and shots.
Truth is that people posting now are not interested in application for leasure time of our thousands of passengers. There has been a little kick out by some developers (learners)
Business is compltely given up, in spite of people argue they buy a computer for that. Games is the same, however people play a lot with a computer.
Isn't it strange ??? our forum looks like the blackboard of a mathematics classroom, full of formulas. People escape.
i could explain by the fact that many forum suscribers are from educational world, and they miss teaching. I am not blaming them. But wen you post to feed back that XFCE apps wil do the job, you are quite disturbing people installing kernels and kernels..
The Newsletter index file has been updated thru the June issue.
