Thank you for Slacko64!

#1 Post by woodymnt »

I don't post much here because there is no need to. I've always been able to figure out any problems with puppies on my own from the info here. After hanging on to Lighthouse 602 for years (really), the browsers have become so old they cannot show most sites correctly. I decided the time was now to find a new 64 bit puppy.

Given only two, I went with Slacko64, and I love it! It is a rock. The video is fixed!!!! I had used Slacko 5.4 and Lucid 520 quite a bit when my window to the world laptop was 32 bit, and back then Slacko could not do on small laptops what Lucid could do video wise, much to my dismay.

I miss the space wallpapers though. One cool thing about Slacko was it always had one really good space wallpaper. Of course I can use any pic of my own for that! I'm just really lazy and it's so hard to choose. I always used the default one with slacko because it was so good.

Anyway I just wanted to touch bases with y'all and say Thank You!

Hi, woodymnt.

Y'know, if you really like that wallpaper, it's quite simple to move it over. (I agree, the current selection isn't as good as it used to be. Micko's gone all 'Ubuntu' on us...) :D

Have you still got your old Slacko ISO disc? Or, better still, the ISO file itself?

If you have, run the disc, or click on the ISO file to open it up. Then, click on the 'slacko_puppy xxxx.sfs' file, to mount it, and get into the file system.

/Usr/share/backgrounds. Open that up, and the default wallpapers should be there. Click on them, to view them in Viewnior (or.....oh, hell, I forget what Slacko64 uses. Whatever it is...), so's to find the one you like so much. Then, open another ROX window on /usr/share/backgrounds in Slacko64's file-system, and move the one you want across.

Then, go into Menu->Desktop->JWM Desk. Wait for it to open, then click on 'Backgrounds'. Find your wallpaper in the list, then 'Apply'.

Now, your favourite wallpaper should be showing on the desktop!
