I booted Lucid Puppy 5.2.8-004 with pfix=ram, so as to not use any save files.
pmusic 1.8.3 shows the gui
pasting in
http://radiodad.com/images/Radio_Dad-_S ... _FINAL.mp3
plays it, and can export to MP3 on my Hard drive
I'm posting with Dillo, so can't do much here.
What do you advise as a step-by-step way to use the
most recent pmusic?
----------------
update 8:16 Am Eastern time
Installed 2.4.1, pmusic upgrade .003, and streamripper
pmusiic loads into tray, no gui

Thank you, Sigmund.zigbert wrote:Ok, so I have now followed your footsteps...
- fresh install in Puppy 5.2.8.004
- Pmusic_update pack 002 from main post (couldn't find any 003 package)
- Installed the latest 2.4.1 Pmusic
Everything works as expected
I have tried that several times, and the GUI doesn't occur.
Code: Select all
gtkdialog -f /root/.pmusic/tmp/xml_Pmusic

I woke up this morning with a notice sticked to my forehead - Ask Sheldon if he has checked the md5sum of the download/burn. But now you say it is hardware specific..... I am out of words. (and that is not often )

Hm, somewhere on the small computer I found
So on the large computer , this seems to work:
Perhaps this may give a clue?
Thank you.

Where would I have found sums to check against?
I am not sure the version of Puppy Linux 5.2.8 on the nettbook is the same one as on the large computer.
I think there is a way to check, but don't recall.
I have been using newer versions of Puppy frugal by simply copying the vmlinuz, initrd.gz, and lupu_528.sfs
(not burning)
As I understand it: make a fresh install of Puppy (ie, don't use a save file)
Install the pmusic upgrade .002
And install pmusic-2.4.2.pet
On the big computer as well as on the small one, thehappens.Code: Select all
# gtkdialog -f /root/.pmusic/tmp/xml_Pmusic ** ERROR **: gtkdialog: Error in line 9, near token 'string': syntax error aborting... Aborted #
However, the gui works on the Acer netbook, but not on the Dell Dimension 8300.
I just copied the Puppy files to a new Linux partition on the sda drive, which is an IDE drive. I had been using it from a FAT32 partition on sdb, which is a SATA drive.
Same behavior
I see that /usr/local/pmusic/pmusic_tray is running.
While on the netbook, shows several lines which include the word 'pmusic'Code: Select all
ps | grep -i 'pmusic'
Hm, somewhere on the small computer I found
Code: Select all
gtkdialog4 -f /root/pmusic/tmp/xml_Pmuaic -G +115+0
Code: Select all
pmusic -G +115+0
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Have you mentioned this for Barry? For many radio-stations, just ffmpeg should work, but streamripper makes things trustful and adds new features as ripping and show info of playing track in the statusbar.linuxcbon wrote:The problem with ffmpeg in Wary is it was compiled with disable-network.
I had to install ffmpeg_runall-0.7.2-p4.pet and streamripper-1.64.6.pet and now radio stations work.

sheldonisaac
-G +115+0 is bound to gtkdialog, not Pmusic.
Sigmund
Code: Select all
gtkdialog4 -f /root/pmusic/tmp/xml_Pmusic -G +115+0

Yes I posted a message in the wary bug forum.
I see many radio stations are not working, is the index too old ?
When a station is not working , pmusic shows for instance :
[tcp @ 0x80653a0] TCP connection to localhost:8002 failed: Connection refused
http://www.laradiodesebb.com/stream/laradiodesebb.m3u
And it repeats it without ending, until something else is played ?
When playing another track, the "little arrow" stays in front of the previous track.
Track info doesnt work for web music or radio stations.
When exiting pmusic, it shows :
/usr/local/pmusic/func: line 129: /root/.pmusic/tmp/DONT_SAVE_PRESET: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `/root/.pmusic/tmp/SEARCH_*': No such file or directory
