I installed to a 32gb flash drive with PUI.

I installed kpat with PPM, it was missing libdbusmenu but that was
available in PPM.
It also needed libpulse and I downloaded the souce from BLFS and
compiled it along with 2 libpulse dependencies, works now.

Will test more later today.

Edit: I was able to get smplayer compiled.
It is working okay here, haven't tried xorgwizard and I'll do a backup of my savefile before I do try it.

Bounce back to 16.02.4 and check. I have/had exactly the same behavior there and maybe earlier.

The CUPS error message is due to a line in one of the CUPS config files. I'll look for it in postings later. HP printer installed just fine using my bookmark in Opry, my usual custom.

Indeed, Xorg-wizard quite mucks up the xorg.conf and freezes the system to boot. I'd have to fire up earlier lxpups or try a kernel swap to see how far that goes. Again, IMO nothing new to 16.02.5.

Going back out to fight with vehicles some more. I'll look for the CUPS line later..

Xorgwizard is fine here, but in some other hardware/puppy-version was freezing because of ddcprobe.
Is ddcprobe runs cleanly in your hardware if you run the command in the terminal?
If not chmod it to 644 and try xorgwizard again.
Puppy has some code to do that but maybe did not take effect.
If on the other hand, if ddcprobe is already inactivated try to chmod to 755 and see if now xorgwizard behaves better.

In general, xorgwizard is problematic with newer kernels and Xorg, and is phasing out.

What I did to get the touchpad mouse back after running xorgwizard and the resulting system freeze was to delete the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and replace it with the backup xorg.conf. This worked in both 16.02.4 and 16.02.5.

OK there are 2 problems - and they've been around for some time, not just appeared with 16.02.5

The first concerns desktop files with the line:

in them

These don't work properly under lxpanel and stopped working in 16.01.1 when I changed from lxpanelx to lxpanel. Fairly easy to fix - just comment out that line.

2 desktop files are affected - Cups Printer Wizard and also Snap2

The second problem is when Xorg Video Wizard is run from the menu entry - not when run in a terminal - when it freezes the system. Ths will be more difficult to diagnose as xorgwizard is huge....

I think the thing to do here is just remove Xorg Video Wizard from the menu.

This bug has been around right back to 15.12.2 and maybe earlier.

I'll rebuild 16.02.5 with these changes tomorrow.

p.s. to recover from a freeze just press ctrl-alt-delete to get to the console and then xwin to return to LxPup

Actually xorgwizrd never really starts!
Somehow the call from the the lxde menu just freezes the whole thing.

BTW jwm does not appear to be usable as an alternative wm in LxPup

LxPupSc-16.02.5-pae.iso has been re-uploaded.

Cups setup from menu is fixed, as is snap2 (change .desktop to comment out Path=)

Xorg Video Wizard has been removed from the menu as ddcprobe does not work with recent kernels. (Have tried a new pet-build compile under k4.4.1 but no joy).

Now using rootfs-packages as shown below instead of .pets

Found the cause of desktop items freezing the system - apps run in terminals must have Terminal=true with lxpanel.

Multiple-Sound-Card_Wizard is affected - .desktop file amended to:

After changing to jwm with xwin jwm
close the pcmanfm window that appears (File - Close Window)

a jwm desktop with no wallpaper does then appear.

However some menu items are still hidden and if you want rox you need to run Rox in a terminal (i.e. with capital R)

I'll see what I can do to make it "better".

Delta downloaded and applied. Iso generated, md5sum checked. Frugal install to core 2 duo, savefile from patched 05 (started in patched 05) updated. Normal boot, posting from 16.02.6 now. One oddity that needs investigating is why sns fails to establish a wifi connection whereas both Frisbee and NetWiz work fine.....most odd!

Your problem may be LxPUPSc distro related. This thread releases 2 separate and distinct distro ISOs/DEVXs/Kernel Sources; namely a PAE distro and a non PAE distro. Can be confusing.

I am no authority, but, I think the kernel needs to match which you have.

Here is a small utility to switch LxPup de to jwm

Puts an icon on the desktop to initiate the switch.

Return to lxde is by dropping out to terminal and doing - xwin startlxde

If testing is OK then I'll build the infastructure into LxPup but make the desktop icon an option installed by .pet

n.b. does not restore any hidden items to the jwm menu, so some things will be missing in jwm mode + some icons are missing too.

On the sns problem - I've tied this down to dhcpcd and some difference in the way this is being installed in the newer woof-ce built LxPupSc's compared to the older woofy built LxPupSc's where the problem does not occur.

@gcm - LxPupSc is only built with one kernel which is 32-bit pae and I'm not proposing to change that at the moment.

There is a problem with the new Multiple Sound Card Wizard - see lines 306 and 336. Because it cannot detect X, it starts in text mode.

Then if you run the ALSA Sound Wizard > Multiple cards, it hangs up.

The new drop-down panel is a PITA. Cute optional features like this should be OFF by default. Users who think it's a good idea can turn it ON themselves.

The attraction of LxPup has always been its clean desktop. That panel spoils it.

I installed the proprietary Nvidia driver, added some applications from
PPM, compiled Smplayer/Smtube.

Firefox asks whether or not to be the default brower everytime that
it's started even after setting it to be the default.

On sns- I've been running it in terminal and from the quick-setup box and found that it WOULD connect to my iwlwifi SO LONG AS I had the firewall box ticked, never without that box ticked. In terminal, it was throwing a gtkdialog error when that box wasn't checked. Look at line 796 in /etc/local/simple_network_setup/sns. I'm pretty sure there is a stray double quote at the end of the line. Eliminating that gives me sns network on the iwlwifi laptop and no gtkdialog errors with or without firewall box ticked. All done with pfix=ram boots.
