I was wondering if spell check is included now in the current .pet so I can re-install.

I'm using it 4.3.2 spellcheck works if you add the dictionary and link it to enchant, there's a pet I made for it, you can find it in the 4.3.2 thread

Hi ttuuxx,

Could you be a little more specific particularly in how to
  • add the dictionary and
    add it to enchant
?

what does running it from the command line return?

I'm guessing that you need the updated glib, enchant or hunspell

Help, am I going mad

I have tried this Abiword on one of Zigbert's Puppy "Stardust" puplets (I'm afrade I can't remember which of them it is - he released several) and it works fine after installing the "libgoffice" pet linked to by ttuuxxx.

EDIT I think it must be Stardust 007 -- there are some of my posts in the announcement thread for that one.

I have now tried it in a "plain vanilla" 4.3.1 install using the same downloaded files via a pen drive and have problems - terminal output below.
abiword: symbol lookup error: usr/lib/libgoffice-0.8.so.8: undefined symbol: g-dgettext
I have tried: rebooting, uninstalling then reinstalling with pet-get and even copying the "libgoffice" files from the working install via pendrive but all give the same error.

This install of 4.3.1 is an update over 4.1.1 -- I haven't yet tried Abiword in a live boot in ram.

I hope this is enough to start some ideas.

Thanks
Will

Hello, an update.

I have now had time to try booting from the 4.3.1 CD with "pfix=ram" and installing Abiword and Libgoffice. This time it works well so it looks as though something left over from the 4.1.1 install is blocking it.

If people with more know-how than me agree I will have to do an "erase and replace" install of 4.3.1 and redo my custom settings manually.

Still any comments welcome.

If redoing your "custom settings" is a significant task, since your problem is presumably caused by having an updated library which is broken/incompatible, have a look through your save file and you can probably manually clean out whatever is causing the problem.
e.g. go into /initrd/pup_rw/usr/lib/ and delete libgoffice-0.8.so.8 and its dependencies, then install it again.

Thanks disiple

My last post was a bit pompus perhaps.

It's only realy network and printing so it's just a case of finding a little time when it's conviniant to try it.

Thanks again

Success :D

A new full install (using "Wipe" rather than "Update" in the Puppy installer) has done the trick. Installed Abiword and the goffice lib and it works fine - thanks to technosaurus for the compiling efforts.

Thanks again to all for their help.

Hi techno, Just a quick question about this application and whether files created in abiword are readable in Microsoft office 2007?

Hello stiginge

A very non technical answer.

I sometimes need to distribute documents around a local charity committee some (most?) of whom I expect will be using MS Office of one version or another and have never had any complaints about things being unreadable after saving in Abiword using the option of "Microsoft Word .doc" as the file format. I'm not using a Puppy system ATM so I can't check the exact wording from the Abiword menu but it is something like that.

Someone with a propper explanation will probably be along soon but I hope thats some help.

I want to do files for my Puppies. I chose Abiword instead of Gnumeric. Here is the result. Not bad, right ?
Of course, we must take the time to do it.

is there a new version ?

Perhaps 2.8.2 is the best.
2.8.6 must be considered as the las stable version until 3.0.0 prooves that the bugs of beta version 2.9 have gone
