Some explanation of the various options the .pet gives would be a big help. They aren't exactly self-explanatory, at least to me.

@Mikeslr: sorry, I cannot be a "guinea pig" for this, my PC does not have
UEFI either. But surely there is a generous soul out there!?

@Flash: indeed, new and even old members would find a good remastering
tutorial handy.

The thread for remasterX-0.7 might be worth a read:

rufwoof explains a couple of things in it.

@mikeslr
Does anybody know if shinobar is still around?
If he is available, perhaps he could be convinced to include the UEFI feature
you mention in a remasterX-1.1 version?

should i expect that the resulting ISO doesn't contain any apps that i removed with 'Remove-Builtin-Packages' tool?

Cuz stuff i removed in is the remaster.

Remasterx with UEFI ISOs

Hi All,

Shinobar created Remasterx before UEFI computers became the rage. Since that occurrence the ISOs of newer Puppies have included, at the top-level, the folders and files such computers require to boot those Puppies. But, obviously, Remasterx lacks the routines to include them in the ISO.

There's a simple work-around, at least for Xenialpup64 or other Puppies which have ISOMaster builtin, or into which it has been installed. In fact, ISOMaster can be run from any Puppy to edit any ISO.

When remasterx finishes remastering it will have produced an ISO and leave its Work Folder intact. Mine were both on /mnt/home. The Work Folder contains the initrd(.gz), vmlinuz, Puppy_version.sfs and zdrv_Puppy_version.sfs [hereinafter referred to as THE NECESSARY FILES]. You have a choice of either:

(a) Opening the Original ISO in ISOMaster, deleting its versions of THE NECESSARY FILES, then copying the Remastered versions from the Work Folder; or
(b) Opening the Remastered ISO, Mounting the original ISO and copying the missing files from the latter to the former.

Remasterx enables you to change the name of the Puppy being remastered, e.g. from Slacko 5.7 to Slacko 5.7CE. I don't recommend that you choose this option unless you intend to publish. If you change the name, you mayhave to edit either or both the grub.cfg and the isolinux.cfg files.
