This is a known bug with Slacko 5.7.
Well, it has been reported before by others.
Sometimes the firmware does not get copied to /lib/firmware/ from /lib/modules/all-firmware.

As I understand, the device gets detected and than the proper firmware gets installed to /lib/firmware/.

Sometimes it works perfect and other times not so good.

Info for petine.

In the console terminal that comes with Puppy.

Copy- left click hold and highlight

Paste- middle button click

Also works to copy from terminal and paste to other programs.

Also if you use copy method that comes with other programs you can paste in terminal by middle mouse click.

If you do not have a middle mouse button.

Clicking the left and right buttons, at the same time, will have same effect as middle mouse button.

shift+insert will also work to paste.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Hi Bigpup and thanks for your suggestion, but ....
your instructions doe not say me anything; I am a "beginner". So please if possible tell me exactly what I have to copy and past in the terminal from Puppy, because I like to know how to handle this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Is there someone else who can or is willing to help me out of this problem?

I believe I did help, in the 15th post in this thread, on Sep 23:
tempestuous wrote:I suggest you open a ROX window and navigate to /lib/modules/all-firmware/rt2x00/lib/firmware/
Next open a second ROX window and navigate to /lib/firmware/

Now just move (by dragging) all of the firmware files into the second ROX window.
Then reboot.

This is not how to fix your problem.
This is information on how to copy and paste from the terminal.
You said earlier you did not know how.

Hello petine, more than a week has passed.
Did you shift the firmware files as I suggested? Does the Ralink wifi adapter work now?

Hello tempestuous, thank you very much for your reaction. It was just last evening at about the time you sent your mail (telepathy ?), that I picked up the case again and after several tries decided to contact you again.
I downloaded the .iso from another link, but no difference. Then I tried to find-out where to download the Roxterminal; have to make my Ethernet connection. Have not made the connection yet.
Do I have to use the Rox terminal, or can it be any other terminal?
And please tell me where and how to find the file /lib/modules/all-firmware/rt2x00/lib/firmware/

I am very grateful you wrote to me.

"ROX", or to use its full name; "ROX-Filer", is a file manager which has been standard in Puppy since the very start. On the desktop it's labelled as "file" or alternatively you can launch it from -
Menu > Filesystem > ROX-Filer file manager

I found ROX and followed your instructions.
By moving the file /rt3070 the message was: already exists and I selected for overwrite.
When done there were 9 errors according the message.
After rebooting the laptop I tried to connect the WLAN, however without success.
In the diagnose of the WLAN a file was generated to be sent to Puppy developers "for analyses and possible problem resolution"

In case this is a bug in Puppy Slacko 5.7, when can I expect someone to correct this bug.
Or how long do I have to wait till this problem is corrected or do I have to wait for a newer version from Puppy???

It appears to me that the Ralink rt61pci driver is not playing well with your device under Slacko 5.7.
Since this driver is actually quite old, I think the solution might simply be to go back to an older Puppy with older kernel - and thus older Ralink driver.
I suggest Puppy Lucid 5.2.x, and the most up-to-date version of this series is 5.2.8.6 -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=90461
The different variations there are confusing. I suggest the "standard" lupu-5.2.8.6-20140321.iso

Help, what have I done wrong this time ???

I have booted my laptop with lupu-5.2.8.6 - , installed the programs I wanted and then saved the files on my hard-disk. I had wireless contact with the internet. No problem.
When I wanted to reboot, I received the following:

- loading drivers needed to access disk drives ......................................done
- searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives ...............................done
- loading personal files / lupushare-2fs (sda2) ......................................done
- loading the 'lupu-528.sfs' main file ....................................................done
- kernel panic - not syncing : Attended to kill init !!

Can you help me by telling me what I have done wrong this time please ??
I was just happy I had use of the WLAN.

petine, another way to get the text from the consol is :
mark the the part you want in the consol with left mousebutton
keep the pointer in the black field
click the middle mousebutton
open geany or abiword , put the pointer on the sheet
klick the middlebutton again, save the file.
