Dpup482-beta5 testing
Nope, I have 2.8 here, but I may have installed it additionally, can't remember now. Look in pet packages 5 on ibiblio or dpup additions folder on dpup.org/test/

No, you haven't installed it additionally, Abiword 2.8.0 is in dpup482 beta 5 by default. I checked booting with pfix=ram and dpup has v. 2.8.0.
For some reason mine does not work when I load dpup beta 5 with the savefile I created under dpup beta 4. I get the message, when launching Abiword from console:
"libgoffice-0.so-4 - cannot open shared object file - no such file or directory".
I checked that there may a conflict with the w.m., and it is not the case. This Abiword does not load neither in jwm, nor wmx, nor echinus.
Now I routinely run upx (a form of compacting) on the bigger executables in /usr/bin to gain some space. Checking into that now. Resullt: some other programs I upx'd under beta 4 run fine under beta 5 (bmp, gnumeric, for ex.).
A couple of questions to anyone:
Right or wrong?
1) Do programs installed in the pupsave file have precedence over original programs in the dpup sfs itself? (I think so, but I'm not sure.)
2) Do you have to create a new savefile everytime for each new puplet ? (I don't think so, but I'm not sure anymore.)
Thanks in advance for any help clearing up this mystery.
BFN.

Q2. Yes and No, if some fundamental changes have taken place, it is advisable to create a new pupsave...but in general terms no. (Dpup, being a work in progress, is always changing, some changes are major and an old pupsave will cause probs)
Once Dpup basic structure is settled then we can be sure that pupsave will not cause little headaches.

Inkscape 0.46 install didn't work
Tried installing Inkscape 0.46 from the debian-lenny-main panel in package manager but no go. It went fine up until some packages would not download. There is a menu entry but nothing happens when I try starting it. I searched the deb repositories for the missing libs at http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages but the first one on the list was not available, then I gave up because I'm pretty tired.

Audacity 1.3.5
Installed Audacity 1.3.5 from the debian-lenny-main panel in package manager and was successful. I ran a couple mp3 and flac files through and everything checks out! Man I wanted Audacity so bad on 4.3.1, could not get it installed but it's humming along fine in dpup.
Gimp 2.4.7
Tried installing Gimp 2.4.7 from the debian-lenny-main panel in package manager and it won't run. Install went fine but the executable won't launch the app from the menu or usr/bin/gimp-2.4. ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Hmmmm..

Funny I installed inkscape from the debian button in PPM and all dependencies were listed and I had the option of installing them which I did.. it is noted in the Dpup logo thread..
Cheers

Doesn't seem to be anything there about installing inkscape, just using it. No big deal, I figured a report on inkscape under dpup would be warranted though. I did also choose to install all dependencies. I will uninstall with PPM and try again using a different source from the list, IIRC I used the one in AU.noted in the Dpup logo thread

Re: Gimp 2.4.7
The Puppy 5 repo on ibiblio has 2.6.3 for Dpup....tubeguy wrote:Tried installing Gimp 2.4.7 from the debian-lenny-main panel in package manager and it won't run. Install went fine but the executable won't launch the app from the menu or usr/bin/gimp-2.4.

Hi tubeguy
Yes.. getting identical result to you.. it was beta4 where I installed inkscape without a hitch. The poppler libs are actually in dpup, so you should be able just to symlink those ... unfortunately the PPM doesn't seem to cater for chasing dependencies later on... a manual hunt is necessary.
I'll post links if I find them
Cheers

Got the libs
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/i386/l ... 0/download
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/i386/l ... 0/download
libWand is included
Interestingly, I downloaded from the AU site. I wonder why ppm could not find them?
Cheers

In dpup we have libpopler.so.5.0.0 and libpoppler-glib.so.4.0.0. (Sid versions???)
Inkscape required libpopler.so3 and libpoppler-glib.so.3 and PPM complained that they weren't there. Fortunately for me the download of Inkscape dependencies from debian repos failed with some, including the libpopplers, or else my newer versions may have been replaced with older versions.
Probably this question should be directed to Barry because he is the PPM maintainer. How can we get the PPM to recognise that we have a library in place, albeit a later version, and construct symlinks to that lib instead of possibly downloading and overwriting a later version with an older version? Or, is this a reason why the download of the poppler libs failed? remember though, the libMagick libs failed too.
The way I see it, PPM should recognise if the libs are older versions and download the appropriate newer versions, or recognise if the libs are newer versions and attempt (at least) symlinking the appropriate version of a lib that the app needs.
