The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

No errors here with Brother Hl2130 using Hl2040 driver (foomatic) from ubuntu repositories. I think you have a wrong driver.

new iso uploaded:

switched back to older vlc
various small fixes from the thread ...
missed ETP's minidnla bug.will fix the package for next time
downgraded librsvg ..jamesbond
dbus fixes ...was missing a folder.
updated to kernel 3.14.54 with 32bit support (note to bigpup.. this will probably still not work for you so just use 01mickos if it doesn't as that also has 32bit support.)

to run 32bit applications you'll need to install the 32bit-compatibilty.sfs (located with the iso) . after it's installed, in a terminal type

Code: Select all

ldconfig
and then you're set to go.
IMPORTANT NOTE: if you want to install proprietary graphics drivers (nvidia/amd) install them after installing the 32bit compatibility.sfs or your 32bit apps may not work.

skype works ... you can just grab the ubuntu 12.04 multiarch.deb from the skype site....if even has sound if you launch it from the menu :)
steam works ....yay!
let me know what doesn't and i'll see if i can fix.

Does the latest version have the new v4 kernel built in? If not, is there a way to build with either/both kernels selectable at boot menu time?

OR, is the plan for this PUP to be a 64bit version 3 kernel system at GA?

6.0.3.9 works well.
Update over 6.0.3.8 works fine
Compatibility SFS does support 32bit-only apps.

Little thing I noticed: wallpaper setter misses the "view" button icon (mini-eyes.xpm).
all xpm mini-icons where replaces by svgs but I guess this one did not (a woof thing I guess...)

Yes, it's got my fsck4 stuff in "init" but not my "partview".
To be consistent with the "freememapplet" in Tahrpup64, you might consider using "partview_avail.gz" from this topic http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=101072

Just for the record, partview is built in to woof. Has been for ages.

I think this should change and be added to the new functionality (in development) of rootfs-packages for the benefit of all future woof-CE based puppies.

We want to avoid overwriting stuff by just 'adding' them. FWIW.

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my Internal Hard Drive Frugal installation (set up with Grub4Dos) from 6.0.3.8 to 6.0.3.9, but I have neither remembered nor have I found how to do that and thus I would appreciate help.

My regards

This should work
  • find the location on your hard drive in rox where your puppy files exist
  • mount the CD iso file by clicking it
  • [optional]back up vmlinuz and initrd.gz as these will be overwritten
  • drag initrd.gz, vmlinuz, puppy_tahr64_6.0.3.9.sfs and zdrv_tahr64_6.0.3.9.sfs from the iso directory over to hard drive location where your current installation exists
  • [optional]delete the old files
  • unmount the CD iso file by clicking it
Now reboot.

You will see green (iirc, or perhaps purple) writing asking if you want to use this save file/folder with these new tahr files. Since you do want to upgrade then follow the recommendation.

Let us know if it goes smoothly or otherwise.

01micko beat me to it.

A frugal upgrade works, I just did it a little while ago.

Hi 01micko,

Thank you for your advice, which I'm 99% sure I followed exactly, but have the message:

pausing...puppy_tahr64_6.0.3.9.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ram disk console...
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

My regards

Thanks to gyro as well.

@Jasper,

That's odd, the only problem I had was my old wallpaper image file was not found, it's not present in the new version. So I had to choose a new one.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, my frugal installs reside on an ext4 partition, and I did the upgrade using a frugal install of 32 bit Tahrpup 6.0.3.

I receive the same message on two PCs with frugal installations.

The desktop PC is a Dell Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz with onboard Intel graphics, and the laptop is an Acer with Intel CPU and graphics.

Md5sum is OK. Downloaded the iso again, same result.

The prior tahr64_6.0.3.8 boots OK but is unstable on my intel PC.

@jasper and @radky

I just followed the exact procedure for a freshly minted slacko and it worked.

Perhaps you need a blank file name ATAHD (see screeny)

I am about to update my tahr.

EDIT: my update worked fine.
