666philb,

You need to read this about Pale Moon.

i resolved the issue a few weeks ago ... moonchild has kindly changed the licensing so that free open source distros such as puppy are able to use palemoon.
Yes, with the changes I've made in the licensing, it is now much more open to free community-driven operating systems and distros than it was before, and you're all fine including Pale Moon this way in any derivative of Tahrpup, as long as you stick to the general rule of thumb you can't alter the browser in any significant way when including it with official branding.

I support all your efforts! :)

I figured you had, but just was not sure after seeing this post on the PaleMoon forum.

It is good that they are willing to work with you and others.
All seem to be after the same good results for everyone.

Thanks!

remember screen brightness

here's a .pet that remembers the screen brightness setting on laptops over reboots.

it works fine for me, but if others could test if it works for them and let me know..... i can then add it to the bugfixes.

I'd been using regular Ubuntu since 2007 but my elderly HP has been creaking under the load of late. I have been using LXLE as an alternative, but installed TahrPup (frugal install) on a whim and dang! that little sucker's fast.

Of course, once I had it up and running I had to tinker...tried to install LXDE through its quickpet, since it seemed a bit more polished than JWM...and now when I boot Puppy it rolls a distorted, unreadable screen.

Presumably if I boot LXLE or the live Tahrpup USB there's something I can do to un-mess myself, but I don't know what that might be. (Apologies if this might better have been posted elsewhere on the forum)

I have tried most of the window managers with different versions of puppy, but JWM is the one I am now using. At first it does not seem to have the options that other WM have, but all the options I am looking for are included.

First look at http://joewing.net/projects/jwm/config.shtml
Then, if you cannot find a way to impliment an option, post it and someone will answer your request.

To try Tahrpup with LXDE it might be easier to try LxPupTahr....

i'm preparing a service pack for tahrpup ...... when it's ready users should get a prompt about it when they open the PPM.

it will contain all the bugfixes to date and the bugfixes button in quickpet will be reset.
other updates include...
ROX-Filer (fixes quiet copy option & proc bug)
Pburn latest ... (this needs thoroughly testing if it's to go in)

any other suggestions?

here's a link to a pet containing pburn&rox updates to test... rox seems fine, but i can't test pburn as i've no cddrive, and it will need testing if it's to go into the service pack.

Other suggestions...

Well, my TahrPup's screen blinks every +/- 10 seconds...
Is it just me ? :) Or the X ?

Everything else works fine on it.

I say "blink", but it's rather like a quick, TV-like, "rescan" of the screen.
It's tolerable, but annoying.

For the record, my computer is an AMD Sempron 3100+ box, from
+/- 2007. I use no graphics card at the moment, just the graphic chip
that's factory-soldered on the motherboard. My Sony monitor has
1280x1024 resolution.

Thanks in advance.

What graphics driver is being used?
Is 1280X1024 the native resolution?
Are you using the native refresh rate?

Example:
I am using a flat screen TV.
The native resolution is 1280X768 but I have to use a refresh rate of 50

Thanks for the suggestion, James. I've done a frugal install with LXPupTahr, and it's working beautifully. It even detected my external monitor at the correct resolution without fiddling, which TahrPup had resolutely refused to do. Very nice indeed, so kudoes to Peebee and everyone else who had a hand in it.

I'd still like to get my TahrPup working again, mind you, and play around with JWM some more.

Hardware requirements

What are the hardware requirements for this new pup? I have an old computer with only 384mb RAM and 1.7 processor. Also, I connect to the internet with a 3G cell modem via dialup (pupdial). Will it be of any use to me?

wacom kernel driver wacom.ko for kernel 3.17.4

i would probably work but you'ld be better off with an older lighter puppy on that

Hmmm. Pardon me if this is a dumb question, but would deleting my savefiles do the job? I should think that would take me into the equivalent of a first-time startup, no?
