Should pupdial be in the Puppy Package Manager for easy installation and config?
:D
pupdial , depending on the puppy version can be extremely confusing to newbeings ( newbees and newbears :D )

I can work with it

luci-218/219/220 pupdial are different.

sdiff would show the different lines. 220-pupdial resembles more 4.3 version

You have to rmmod usb_serial or/and modprobe DRIVER at some puppys and watch out for the right nameserver entry(s) at /etc/resolv.conf

I can handle that it presents init1 while it should present init2 at the gui at first startup & probe/choose :D

also test button has to be applied first and if carrier wasn't detected after the first three attempts it rushes without ever connecting.

then USB modem has to be unplugged, pluggend in, test button hit and with the "spirit or manitou of success" the connect to interet button has to be hit again

HAVE FUN ! :D :D :D

Yep, the corrected wrapper, browser-default-1.1 and QP-3.1 (and if you like the net_tray update)
Got 'em all.

I am not seeing many problem reports on luci-220--which is good--there shouldn't be many. Let's try 221 with the latest Woof tomorrow.

Hi playdayz,

In case it may be of interest. I have Adobe Reader 8.0 (sfs version) which is reported as 47 MB.

After reading your post I have just used it and my free space only dropped by 2 MB, but that 2 MB does not seem to be restored after uninstalling the sfs.

From the Menu at least it was amazingly quick to load and loading the sfs was nearly as quick to load from my hard drive as an older version of Adobe takes to load in W98SE.

I also have Foxit Reader, but Adobe and Foxit appear in different sections of the Menu.

My regards

Addendum:

I have got my 2 MB back but I had to uninstall the sfs a second time before I could load it again. I then restarted it, but again I had to uninstall twice.

Hi all

220 is still looking good, Any tips on setting a usb wireless conection up with it??
P4 2500mhz 2048mb ram, our lass wants puppy on her computer and after reading back in this thread it seems like pwireless2 is the way to do it. I think the encription is wep (well it needs a password). any advice would be greatfully accepted.

Cheers

Clean install Luci 220.
At first boot:

Welcome to Lucid Puppy Screen:

1. Recommends wrong video driver for my card(Nvidia NV37GL Quadro PCI-E). Recommends xorg_high. Should be a Nvidia driver. The Nvidia 173 one works for me.

2. If select change resolution. The info screen, that comes up after selecting the resolution, does not stay up long enough to read and make a selection as to what to do. About the time you read it and think, it is gone. (should stay until you select something)

missing libxcb-xlib.so.0

#350 Post by jrb »

Hi Playdayz,
Forgive me if someone has already mentioned this, but in luci220 pwidgets reports libxcb-xlib.so.0 missing.

It was there in luci219 so I just copied it over and pwidgets is happy.

BTW, luci is brilliant! I'm just getting around to trying it out, have been busy with other things this summer. I'm very impressed! :D

Hi Playdayz,

Whew. That is a weird one. libxcb-xlib was provided by Ayttm-0.6.3 in luci-219, but when I started the sequence again at luci-220, I used the wrong ayttm, the old one, which did not provide libgxcb-xlib. Anyway, it is good for luci-221 and 222.

And thanks for your kind comments. You are the jrb that wrote the sfs-installer? Well, I have been wanting to talk to you ;-) For lupu-5.2 we would like to have a one-click "automatic" sfs loader and a list of good sfs's that are "tested and configured" for Lucid Puppy to go with it. So programs just isntall better as sfs's--mainly for size I guess, but we would like to have those available for users, just as easy as the one-click pets in Quickpet and Puppy Package Manager (and on that kind of model). We won't start lupu-5.20 development for a while yet, a month or so, but if you are interested we could start talking about it. Thanks.

Reading another thread here in the forum and discovered that the latest issue of "Full Circle" magazine, a Ubuntu related mag, has a Puppy logo on the cover. See screenie.Didn't find a mention of Lucid Puppy but...........

Downloaded the pdf of the mag, opened it in Foxit Reader and it crashed immediately. Twice. Removed Foxit and reinstalled........still crashes as soon as one tries to view a file.Luckily no problem with ePDFView.

Pulseaudio and module raop. Device chooser relies on avahi-daemon which queries devices in ip space and informs if they are found. To simplify that I found app stream2ip written in python which can be used instead of avahi-daemon. You can give it spesific ip address and it guides audio to for example to Airport from pulseaudio.

But python asks pygtk. I installed python-gtk package.

Code: Select all

sh-3.00# python
Python 2.6.5 (r265:79063, Apr 16 2010, 13:09:56)
[GCC 4.4.3] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import pygtk
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named pygtk
>>>
I dont know anything about python. But I remember that I have crushed to same problem before. Does anybody know howto fix this ?

By the way. I made second attempt to use pulseaudio in luci220 with much less package installation when I knew the reguirements. Now I try to use it without avahi-daemon if possible.

Give us a little time to test. It just came out yesterday!
My tests are inconclusive and confusing. Suffice to say
that Puppy is performing but other issues which I can
not find the source for are effecting my browsing
even in 510 (I went back) which was fine previously

I had issues which were not present before.

I can not offer an explanation of how this is possible
without some hardware problem which I can not trace.

I would like to thank everyone who tested streaming
and found it worked OK - thanks guys.
keep up the good work 8)

That took care of it.
