Saluki
evernote with saluki
You can use Evernote with Saluki by installing the Chrome.sfs (and it should also work with the Firefox.pet) Both of these can be accessed via the package manager. Then go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... efbikjilc# and click 'add to chrome' to install (using chrome, of course). It'll give an error message upon install, but give it a minute or so and it will install. On chrome you'll end up with a widget icon on the top-right hand side of the tool bar that you can click on to login to Evernote.

distro watch
I think you're right. And the crazy thing about it is that it's still in beta. It hasn't been officially released yet.bruceoutdoors wrote:You know what I think? if more people knew that there's this saluki puppy, puppy linux would be in the top 5 in distrowatch.
If the general public knew what Saluki (and other Puppy's) had to offer in terms of security (live read-only CD/DVD RAM loading), and ease of install (frugal), not to mention speed and great support, if they actually could get a grasp on those concepts, I think they'd see the value of a distro such as Saluki. And let's not forget the tiny size of the OS. Saluki is very user friendly; not hand holding like an average MS user would be used to, but liberating for an advanced MS user. It's not Ubuntu, but at the same time it's not Arch Linux, either. It has a little bit of both, with an interface (Xfce) that should be familiar enough for most MS/Mac users to intuitively figure out with a little bit of effort.
The real plus, and this is the unspoken benefit, is it's modular re-mastering system - the customization via the custom-builder. This sets it apart from the other Puppies. It's a snap to include/remove desired packages from an ISO, and to re-brand the distro if you have the inclination to do so. Saluki is wonderful. IMHO I think it should stand as a model for the next version of Puppy Linux because of the modular design, but that isn't my call. At present my wish is that it eventually reaches the point that it gets an official release. It deserves that much.
mount MTP device
If I’m not mistaken, that’s a tablet, right?DaveS wrote:How can I mount and browse an MTP device (specifically Nexus 7)?
I don’t have a tablet, but I do have an android. I installed an app called ‘FTP Server’ on my android (it’s free from the app-market or whatever they call it nowdays). From there I can open ‘gFTP ftp client’ in Saluki from the internet sub-menu, and, after connecting to the wi-fi on the android, I click ‘Start’ from the ‘FTP Server’ app. This gives me an FTP URL. I type that URL into the ‘Host’ entry box in gFTP and click the far left button to connect. I can then transfer files to and from my ‘droid and ‘puter. You can even add a bookmark in gFTP to automate the process for future sessions.
If you don't have an android OS on the tablet, you should be able to duplicate this by adding a FTP server app.

Xfce/Saluki visual menu editing
Saluki automatically updates it's menu system, but if you find the need to do manual editing, go to 'Start Button->Control Panel->XMenu Entry Maker'. Xfce has a much better automated menu system than does IceWM or JWM. In most cases you won't need to do any editing. But if you do find the need, the means are there via the 'Control Panel/XMenu Entry Maker'.rob_0126 wrote:I am taking saluki for a testdrive now. If you're looking to remove menu entries, an easier option may be to open the file manager (Thunar) and navigate to /usr/share/applications and rename the *.desktop file that you wish to remove (rename it instead of deleting it so you can reverse the process if needed at a later time).

Yes... totally!!!elroy wrote:At present my wish is that it eventually reaches the point that it gets an official release. It deserves that much.
I wish Saluki had been based on Ubuntu binaries!!!
Then we'd have a huge repo to get stuff from.
I know there is Lucid and various Upup derivatives, but I love the integratedness Saluki offers and does deliver.
I do hope in future Upup and Saluki can come together to create the ultimate Puppy.
Anyway, my 2 cents.... Awesome job Jemimah and developers!!! Thanks for this wonderful OS
Well, as that wise man Meatloaf once sang, "Two out of three ain't bad'. The Saluki Kernel is a pemasu build. And Saluki has the concepts and desktop from jemimah.deepsea wrote:

Saluki offers a 3.2.8 kernel, and a 3.2.13-pae kernel. They're available here - http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/Saluki/.Using jemimah's custom-builder, you can easily change the kernel when creating a new iso of Saluki (or a custom distro if you choose to go that route).

I meant it in general
and as the official version.

ATI Radeon HD6450 fglrx problems
I've just installed Saluki 023. I can't get the proprietary AMD fglrx driver to build and install. I've tried upgrading XORG to 7.6 using the Saluki mega xorg pet, but still no joy. The ATI pet in the Saluki repo doesn't install either. I'm using the devx from Saluki 022 and the kernel sources from K3.2.8-ski.
I can live with the VESA driver but it's slow.

But I do not get it
The way I understand an "official" puppy must use Woof2, so roar-ng is out.
Saluki used originally an old woof and AFAIK Jemimah never "woofyfied" her changes nor published her build system (if it exists as such). So Jemimah's changes are also out.
Kernel is flexible in "official" puppies, so we are good there but is still hard for any "official" puppy to fulfill your wishes.
But what's wrong with the non-official ones?
The real problem however, is who is/are going to build, and consistently support, the next official puppy. Most of the active developers are working on ARM on development boards so will be ready if ARM laptops/desktops catch up with the public or maybe eventually outperform Google's android and Apple's iOS on touchscreen devices.
For the last few months or so there is no "official" x86 puppy in development (except maybe the slow Slacko update) and no developer(s) had shown any interest picking up PrecisePup after Pemasu and Barry K. went other ways.
Who knows maybe is the summer break (or heavy winter under )

I just wanted to report that Openshot 1.4.2 in Saluki appears to be buggy.
I tried playing a .mov file in it and Openshot closed on me. Here is the output from the terminal:
I'm too lazy to compile anything at the moment, so I am reverting back to using openshot in PupStudio.

Well I've updated it once again, this time I think I have it so that there are no bugs, I removed the xdialog editbox, the reason is that it has a problem with
UTF-8 and gives errors on locale, this will break some of the existing .desktop files if they are edited with it, so now it is linked to edit with the default text editor.
I have tidied the script so that it's more easely read, removed non essential sections and fixed errors, added checkbox to hide menu entry, my other way of hiding them was of no use, as it made the entry totally unusable, doing it the correct way allows it to still function but not be shown in the menu, so a desktop copy will work.
This should replace the original in /usr/sbin as it is buggy and will cause errors, please test, report errors.

I've been on the lookout for a fully featured menu editor, but there is nothing that appears to work at the moment, but I'm still hopeful of finding other useful options to add.rob_0126 wrote:Good work! Is their a way to make a visual list box, editable, like the kde menu editor? That way you could set the properties of each item and it's position in the menu.
That would be the best!

People - look at what you're doing here!
This thread is getting ridiculous - 231 pages of unsearchable stuff no-one can read through in a sensible time.
Go to the Saluki website there's a forum in there with *threads* - much more useful. This thread should be CLOSED ASAP by the mods here.

I am NOT a developer. (So, these questions are probably missing a lot of general understanding, but, maybe not, too.)
For an editable Menu system my questions are:
Just trying to understand.
For an editable Menu system my questions are:
- Is the Window Manager (WM) responsible for the MEnu system?
- And, if so, wouldn't the best advice be to use a Window Manager that best meets objective?
- Is there some place where one could compare whether the feature being addressed is present in another WM?
- Can other WMs be selected in a SALUKI distro build on the desktop?
Just trying to understand.

Will try to compile a version of LMMS with plugins since people seem to think they need to be included.
