My neighbor has a Lenovo s10e with bcm4312.
He runs Mac Snow Leopard on it.
JRBs' bcm4312v3 gives the option to use "wl" and it works fine on that machine.
When I tried Fluppy yesterday it wouldn't see any wireless
devices; and we had to reset Airport from the bios to get Leopard
to connect again.

It's all quite confusing.

I managed to get 'vlc-0.8.6h-engv5-1.pet' working fine.
However it is dated.

Were you just using
# ./configure
# make
# new2dir make install
Or was I missing a suffix? (--???)
as configure would complete but an error was always returned on make.

VLC is a difficult one to compile. It's quicker for me to just do it than to document how I did it. Plus I found some problems with the devX now that I need to fix for the next version.

It seems I've only got it working without the GUI. I have to build the latest Qt for that - so it could be a day or two actually.

Yes that vlc lite is a little dated, but it's only 1/3 the size of the
version in Lucids' Quickpet.
Works fine for me in Fluppy or any 4.xx Puppy.

There is no rush, its just a great media player for low spec machines, (my 800mhz 256mb test/spare box runs great with it)

To further add to (or possibly explain?) the bcm 4312 problem I was
having.

The usbflash install I did was with "bootflash"; using either the cd or
the iso as source.
I've found that the flash install gives a "no wireless" warning on other
computers, in addition to the Lenovo with bcm4312.
It also fails to install any sound apps., alsa, retrovol......

I used "universal installer" for the flash install and everything seems
to be fine.
Wonder if I can talk my friend with the Lenovo into another
attempt.

i have tried the new fluppy 005 and you still didnt fix the sound bug that hapens in full installation that sound wont work in chrome or any other app it only works in gnome-mplayer

Maxpro4u are you running Fluppy on the 233MHz P2 in your sig?

It would totally not surprise me if the 2.6.33 kernel is too new for that machine.

why yes, yes I am. 5.1.1 seems to run fine(which I am using at the moment). I have been trying different puppies for a while now to see which one runs the best.

I think we have a winner. I'd been making Fluppy 5 on USB using the bootflash technique. I took RJB's advice and did with Universal Installer and it recognized my wireless card right out of the box. I've not yet linked it to my network but I suspect I am golden. I've got to run now but thank you both very very much for all the help. I've got to travel for the next 4 weeks so having Fluppy on the Lenovo is going to be a real plus.

Can I just use MENU - SETUP - BootFlash install Puppy to USB?

Then boot that USB on my Samsung NB30 and install it as Frugal?

Yes - bootflash should work fine - just make sure the zdrv (zp005332.sfs) gets copied to the usb stick.

It appears to have worked fine.

The zdrv was not copied but clicking on the Fluppy-005.iso to mount it allowed me to copy it over.

Do I really need the Fluppy devx right away, e.g. does it contain important drivers and apps, or may I add that later?

Thanks for the grisbi pet but I'm having some difficulties on my end... Same netbook, same LiveCD, same external drive, etc... but I am only catching a short glimpse of the available wireless networks now (on first pfix=ram boot). Even though I am typing in the WPA/TKIP password correctly, pwireless comes back with a message that the password is wrong. Then ALL of the wireless access points simply disappear.

I tried creating a save file, blacklisting ssb and b43 (loading wl), saving and rebooting -- but to no avail. In short, I'm stuck at the moment.

The thing I really wanted to check on the grisbi program was whether or not it would easily import data from one's bank. The young adults I've met who are challenged by personal budgeting usually (but not always) lack the discipline it takes to manually input large pools of data. (Others suffer from previous mis-informed decisions or have been simply overcome with life events.) Anyway, I believe an easy import function would keep a lot of these folks from falling off the wagon, to use a figure of speech.

[EDIT: It does import data! Or rather it loads a CSV file that has been exported from the bank.}

One criticism I did read on the web was that "grisbi" does not by itself identify the program as anything to do with finance or budgeting -- and I think that criticism has some merit. I am about to download your .pet for transfer via a thumbdrive, but I hope it creates a menu entry that identifies it as a finance function.

As far as including it in the base .iso, that's entirely your call (and I really do understand size constraints). In my mind, an easily accessible .pet should be good enough.

FINAL EDIT: I do see one problem with this program, after loading an exported CSV file, the program tells me "The following fields are missing or inconsistent: Payee, transaction amount" and I don't see any way to create that field or go forward from there. I can go back to the website for documentation, but if it's not obvious or intuitive.... is it really going to meet the need?

WPA worked to connect to my Netgear as well.

Question: Can I replace Google Chrome with Seamonkey?

I strongly dislike Google and am used to Seamonkey.
