Firefox/Linux has been giving me a lot of grief recently, have to drop it. Opera going from strength to strength seems the only reliable one left at the moment. Let's hope Jemimah can offer us a stable Midori with all the bells & whistles for Saluki.

I compiled and made a pet of Seamonkey 2.6

It works inSaluki 003, Wary 5.2.2,Racy 5.2.2, and likely other recent pups but
not tested in any yet.

The download link is:

EDIT:Works fine in Saluki,Wary,Racy,Slacko and Lucid 528.004, 3headed dog too.

I am still focusing on getting the core where I want it. I'm working on acpid, sven hotkeys, and various other small utilities. Tedious fit and finish work, mostly.

I tried the latest dev version of webkitgtk/midori but it still draws black boxes all over the place. I'm going to try the previous stable release 1.4.3 and see if it's better than 1.6.1.

I compiled Dillo-3.0.2 and it's dependency in Wary and made an sfs of them.
I've tested it in Saluki-003 and Slacko-5.3.1, it should work in other
recent pups too.

Hi Biltoo,
Billtoo wrote:I compiled and made a pet of Seamonkey 2.6
EDIT:Works fine in ... Slacko ...too.
Many Thanks for this later version !
In Slacko 5.3.1:
Once installed got a new Menu entry «Seamonkey-2.6 Web Browser» below the already existing one «Seamonkey web browser».
SM-2.6 has to be started from Menu/Internet.
Seamonkey-2.6 is installed in /usr/lib/seamonkey-2.6 leaving the already existing /usr/lib/seamonkey undeleted and still activable as defaultbrowser.
Doing:
- deleting the existing /usr/lib/seamonkey (or renaming it for instance /usr/lib/OLDseamonkey if wanted keeping it...)
- renaming the new /usr/lib/seamonkey-2.6 to /usr/lib/seamonkey;
allows to get it running as defaultbrowser.

Works fine as also the SM-mails !

Cheers!
Happy New Year to all Puppylovers!
Charlie

Yippee! Will it use Midori as default?

this is feedback / input from my own experience with the new midori browser...

overall, it is significantly improved and very stable /usable for browsing the internet...

it crashed a couple of times while i was tweaking my toolbar...

also, it crashed a couple of times while i was using the menu button at the top, far right of page... you get this menu button when you right click the the tool bar and turn the tool bar off...

in addition, i cannot open the main lupu / lucid / slacko / wary "ibiblio" websites (re:from the puppylinux.com page), but i can open the alternative sites listed below the main sites, however, when the alternative sites open, i cannot download the .pets...

anyway, other than the above mentioned issues, midori 0.4.3 works just fine and i am using it as my primary browser... it has never crashed on me while just browsing the internet...

thanks, Jemimah !!!

The newer midori with the older webkit seems alright to me - certainly superior to just having dillo.

Once I get to building apps I think I will build around midori/gstreamer/gnutls. I think this is the future even though it's a bit rough around the edges now.

No video on SIS graphics

just FYI...

Tried Saluki 004 from CD. Did not get any video, had audio though (bark, and goodbye at powerdown.
Rebooted several times with pfix=nox and tried manual XORG and VESA settings. Anything other than 640x480 failed.
I guess the SIS drivers are not in this kernel. I never tried Racy on this PC, but Wary runs fine, as does lucid 525/528.

This PC may be too old for Saluki anyway. Don't get distracted by this report, and make Saluki into a marvelous product for newer PC's.

P.S. on 640x480 recognized puppeee touches.....

I am kinda working on a side project that will run the boot process in X (X will start in <1s, so its not that a big deal to push the init process into it) ... hopefully it can work with Saluki - I already tested against its kernel
I did have a couple of questions about the default Xvesa settings
1. for older 586+ PCs and newer tablets/netbooks is 800x600 supported universally?
2. does defaulting to 16bit color mess with any newer boxes?
Note: this is just for a bootstrap X, the user can either stay in it, if they need lower resource usage (<3Mb) or run the Xorg wizard after "init" is finished

Quick live pfix=ram test run of 004.Booted to a working desktop with sound....had to run through xorgwizard to get the correct 1440x900 resolution and the Network Wizard to get connected .Using Opera 11.60 to post this because I had it handy.
