the link in synth's post isn't working for me - says I dont have permission to view the page. doesnt ask for a username password like some of the other links. other posts have the alpha versions but not 1.0. am I doing something wrong? should i just get the alpha3? or is there another link somewhere? I'd like to get the latest version - looking forward to trying this on an old p3 750. hoping to youtube running for my daughter as we just dropped our cable service.

synth, are you planning on moving to the 4.3.1 base with the updated kernel?
Turbopup 1.0
-----------------
Turbopup Xtreme will have a couple more RC releases (more updates, further speed and memory footprint improvements). The regular version of Turbopup has been discontinued.

Turbopup 2.x
-----------------
Turbopup 2 regular (the next generation, coming soon) will use the new kernel and the optimizations found in the original Turbopup :)
There are no plans for an 'xtreme' version of Turbopup 2.
Is TP2 still in the pipeline? While I'd personally prefer an extreme version of your puplet with a smp kernel, I'll take what I can get. :P

Someone very helpfully placed the file on multiple sharing sites, in
addition to the author's official server.

I created a live link to the unofficial site. No login or password
required. If you click here you'll be taken to a listing of numerous
sites where the file is archived. Choose any one. I just tried it
and confirmed it works. Maybe a bit slow, but it's working.

You need to work your way through a few links, select any site
with a green tick. As we are free users, expect to have to wait
for 30 seconds or so (that's their incentive to join up for faster
speeds).

Does anyone know when the next release will be?

Synth!! I can't believe you pulled it off!

Oh man, this is amazing. Before I plunge in, can I ask the question I always do: is there any way to enable some of the fat (UI)? You know, like with that nice program you made for me back in the day (not the one that made noises... XD).

Cheers!

Sorry for the double post, but perhaps you'd be interested in http://www.microxwin.com/ .

You want RAM savings? This is the ticket. Speed? This is the ticket. Basically what this does is implement xorg in a fraction of the size without requiring any extra drivers (implements the server into the kernel itself as a little module). You can also slim down the distro significantly with this in it (no more ridiculous xorg).

One problem: you'd need to get the author's permission. I saw him before on the puppy forums, and he even tried to help a puplet creator set it up, but after that both went MIA and I don't know what happened after that. It's incredibly promising, though, and it would be a great way for the author to get the word out about microxwin too, so I don't see why he wouldn't be okay with this.

Other drawbacks:
- Requires a bit of recoding, I think. This is because puppy's initialization scripts invoke an xorg calibration (you get to set your screen size, etc) which might not be compatible with mxw right off the bat...

I don't know. I've seen microxwin around for some time and the prospect is really very exciting to me. I can't believe there isn't more interest in it...I wish the author would include debs/rpms as demos for popular distros so the users could appreciate it better. Of course, with the complex graphics drivers and 3D rendering and such on high-end systems, this isn't too much of a great thing, but for older/slim/netbook systems (what turbopup is meant for), or for any system that doesn't have good driver support (all the new intel systems with poulsbo/gma500/etc), microxwin is really a promising prospect.

Tell me what you think.

1.1?

Hi Synth,

I'm admiring your work as it runs the fastests on my low end PC's overhere.

Do you know when 1.1 will be available?
Anything you want to say about the upcoming features?

Kind regards,
Zicozico

While waiting for the author to reply, read my posting at the tophere and you'll

Thanks shep,
"Working it my way" to download the turbopup_xtreme_v1.iso, I first got a http.com list of sponsored sites; and afterwards from that url have cut out the following url where to find the download links.
Hope this could also help.

I love this puppy!

Here it is running on my Compaq Armada 1592DT!

233mhx Pentium MMX, 93mb EDO RAM, 3.9gb HDD, 800x600 12.1" screen.

it idles at around 2%, and everything is useable and... well I wouldn't describe it as snappy, but menus take little time to appear. The most painful thing to do is use seamonkey and browse the internet.

I wouldn't use Seamonkey on that pc, it takes too much resources, I personally would delete usr/lib/seamonkey and flash also would be real slow, that is located in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so and install either dillo2, not the best at rendering but would be a lot snappier http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=52534
or the small version of midori http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=51971 which is larger, but is more like a regular full browsers and renders way better than dillo. Should cut your memory consumption in half or more when using a browser.

ps don;t forget to edit /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser and set it to which ever browser you choose.

Hey there, thanks ttuuxxx!

Which is the more user friendly of the two? :)

Well midori handles more types of web content, If you can get it going, doesn't work on all puppy version.
maybe try them both and just bootup with puppy pfix=ram

ok I tried midory - but got the error:

midori: error while loading shared libraries: libgio-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Will try dillo.
