Question: Can I replace Google Chrome with Seamonkey?

I strongly dislike Google and am used to Seamonkey.
I'm using seamonkey 1.1.18-p4.pet on all my installs (old and new).
Just type seamonkey up in the search box to find it.
When I install it, I go to /usr/local/bin and change default browser
to seamonkey.
Then I open ~(All, Thumbs) and trash-delete the .mozilla folder.
Open a previous install and drag-copy that .mozilla folder to replace
the deleted one.
Loads all my old bookmarks, settings, mail, etc. into the new install.

Why is it that you prefer the older one to the current 2.0.7, please?

I will want to have access to Flash and other plug-ins from time to time.

I understand that 2.0.7 was a security update from 2.0.6 - where does that leave pre-2.xx versions?

Is there a way via pbackup or some other app to mirror/sync specified files between my laptop and my netbook?

1.1.18 is the one I'm comfortable with.
2.06 (in Wary?) is the only new one I've seen so far that lets me
enable mms and rtsp streams in about:config.
Will probably upgrade some day.

Synching and mirroring; Don't know.

Red Shift?

#404 Post by P123 »

Has anyone managed to get Red Shift to work in Fluppy?

I did a search of this forum & found 995 posts all with red or shift in them, of course very few had both - none had a pet file.

So could you point me in the right direction, please.

PS. Fluppy 005 is the best out of the box puplet I have tried.

The only other thing I can suggest is try running
"Alsamixer"
when the Gui comes up then press the F6 key
If that does not list any sound devicies then I dont know what to do next (sorry)

By the way, you have not blacklisted any devices have you? and we are working from a clean install?

Lenovo S10e

#406 Post by GaRailroader »

All:

I'm posting from my Lenovo running Fluppy 5 connected via the BCM4312. For the record, here are the key characteristics of the install:

1. USB universal installer installation to vfat flash drive. The boot flash install left sound and wireless inoperative as well xorg.

2. Add wl

3. Give wl preference over b43

4. Blacklist ssb

Thanks to RJB and Jemimah for all the help getting this going.

No,I have not blacklisted anything. Yes,I am using a clean frugal install. Think I'll just move on to the next puppy I want to try out! I am having a good time with my puppies. Right now I have 5 of them frugally installed.

Was it actually necessary to blacklist SSB? I applied Tempestuous' patch that is supposed to fix that.

Jemimah,

Yes. Prior to blacklisting ssb the scan of networks was coming up empty. Once blacklisting ssb and rebooting I was able to see all of the wireless networks. Also, prior to blacklisting ssb the inoperable network interface was called wlan0 after blacklisting ssb it is now called eth1. Anyway, it is working great.

I can confirm this. On my initial fresh boot -- and that fresh boot only -- all of the wireless access points would show. Unfortunately, attempting to connect to an encrypted network always came back with the "wrong password" prompt. Resetting Wpa_supplicant caused all access points to disappear until the next fresh boot (and RAM flushed).

Just did another boot from a freshly burned CD (my earlier problem), blacklisted ssb, added wl, and -- even though wl is not showing up to give preference -- got online.

In addition to blacklisting ssb I also un-blacklisted wl.
It loads eth1 and connects automatically on my neighbors

Here's the VLC sfs: http://puppeee.com/files/sfs/vlc-1.1.4.sfs

Note: this is for Fluppy005 or Puppeee 4.4 only - I wouldn't expect it to work with earlier versions.

For those without a working Vattery, let me know if this one works.

Just decompress it and copy it to /usr/local/bin

Google Chrome 6

#418 Post by GaRailroader »

All:

I really like the new release of Google Chrome. I used to have to keep Firefox and a Citrix Client loaded on Puppeee as I could never get Citrix working on the older version of Google Chrome. I've loaded the jre sfs on my frugal Fluppy 5.0 install and web-based Citrix is working without loading the Citrix Client.

It's OK on Compaq Mini CQ10-101SO, Atom N270 1.6 GHz.
Good work.

qt4 problem

#420 Post by vovchik »

Dear Jemimah,

Thanks for Fluppy005. I finally installed it on my Samsung NC10 (2GB RAM and 500 GB disk) and it works nicely. What seems to be broken, however, is qt4 (which is rather old - 4.3). I replaced it with a qt4.4 dev that I had on Puppy Jaunty (4.10), and it works fine.

With kind regards,
vovchik

PS. Now going to try VLC 1.1.4.
