Jasper,

I have also seen the error message on one of my computers running Wary 5.2.2. I my case it was caused by the Xorg 7.6 upgrade pet. When I uninstalled that pet the Opera error did not appear again.

I'm running your latest sfs in 5.2.5 from a usb stick on a Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop and it works fine. I always remove the previous version from the boot manager, reboot, add the latest and reboot again instead of removing and adding in the same operation. I seem to remember once something weird happened to the filesystem when I did it in one operation.

Artie,
Thanks for the feedback and useful tip. I have not seen that problem myself but better safe than sorry.

Should I start a new thread maybe?

I hope it is okay to ask here among Opera browser users.

I am a long time FireFox user. More due to getting used to
have addons that is easy to use. noscript and others.

But Opera has something about it that I like and a great
community forum too?

And what about the Firefox using Google as first choice
of search engine. Maybe I want to use some other instead
and maybe Opera is less related to Google not having a deal?

I mean why do you guys use Opera at all? No offense
I really want to change but is dependent on FF I guess.

All my passwords are on FF and all my Bookmarks and so on

That is good to know. I use forum member seaside's
sfs-exec pet and launch Opera that way as an SFS standalone

Not sure if that also would need a reboot when changing
to a later SFS?

Nooby,

As I recall you can easily change your first choice search engine in Firefox.

You can have many different versions of Opera with seaside's program and you don't need to reboot.

You can export your Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file and import them into Opera.

You can have WoT and other addons in Opera.

I don't find it better than Firefox. I'm now a convert to SeaMonkey with its inbuilt email program, but I also use Opera - sometimes as now - with both in my tray.

My regards

Thanks Jasper! Much appreciated.
So you are into SeaMonkey. I don't dare to say anything :)
I do some tests and decide later. I'm in no hurry.

re Why Opera

I started using Opera many years ago - have just stayed with it because it seems OK, and I didn't see the need (or was lazy) to try others. Well, I have done a little with a few other browsers - IE when Opera wouldn't work on something, or QTweb?

On this computer, I use version 10.63 under MS Windows 98SE, and 11.01 under Puppy 214.X.
On my 2004 computer, I think it's Opera 11.52 under Lucid Puppy 5.28

Thanks,

Sheldon (a real [old] newby)

Nooby,

There you go again with thread drift. ;)

I have used Opera for years because it is fast and easily customised to my needs. Opera has been in the forefront of browser development and created many features like tabbed browsing which were later copied by Firefox, etc.

If you want a general discussion about the relative merits of various browsers please start an appropriate thread.

I use Opera for a number of reasons. It was the only browser that would even run on my first old 386 PC. All the others were too big. If you have a very old pc try Opera before you give it up. I'm Norwegian so it's nice to use a Norwegian browser. It's faster than any of the others on my systems. You don't need an external flashblock just use the built-in. But the most important and convenient feature for me is that I don't have to open a separate editor to update my web page. Just go to the page, CTRL U, edit, CTRL R, that's it.

As for me, I'll wait until a less buggy opera comes out. I tried 11.6 last month, and it always created an error at close. Vey happy with opera version 11.52, for now.

I am not seeing any crash on shutdown on several installs on different computers. However, if you do experience this problem try deleting the file /root/.opera/operaprefs.ini . It will be created with default settings when Opera is next opened and you will have to reset your personal changes to Preferences (if any.)

I have updated the SFS to Opera 11.62 (build 1273).

This is a maintenance release with some stability fixes.

See first post in this thread for download location.

This one being for wary and racy.
Would that mean it works good in Saluki too?

Is it too different to work good in Lupu 528?
I have not searched if there exists Opera.SFS
especially for Lupu, I trust it does.

I don't use Saluki but it is apparently based on Racy so it probably will work.

It probably will work with Lupu 528. Earlier in this thread it was reported to work with Lucid 525 and Slacko 5.3.1.

PenguinPupLin wrote:Glad to report your latest opera-11.61-1250.sfs also works well for my Lucid Puppy 528 (the updated 528.004.iso to be exact).

Thanks again for your contribution. Now using Opera 11.61 web browser to post this message.
I've reported it earlier for my Lucid Puppy 528-004 updated version.

Now, I wish to add it's also working for Lighthouse Pup 5.0.3 G-Mariner , after I've removed all traces of the earlier opera-11.51.pet and opera-11.01.pet.

Thanks, Terryphi for keeping the opera.sfs up-to-date.

Lighthouse Pup 5.0.3 G-Mariner

I am not sure if that was the one I looked into.
As I remember Lighthouse Pup 5.0.3 G-Mariner
can be based on Puppy 420 so it can be an older
kernel than what Terryphi has set up latest opera for?

But he would know such things
