As with the slackos, there is the perl-html-parser package (perl modules) which is needed and missing
Thanks for the feedback - are both just needed in the devx?

perl-html-parser is not a mainstream slackware package...it is available for Slackware Current from ponce:

The version via ppm is the 14.2 version from Salix....I think

They all appear to be build-time deps and not run-time deps in the case of NetSurf, so I reckon devx would be OK.

Thanks for the updates.
Testing ScPup 19.01+5 .iso and devx including test compile of NetSurf 3.8
Reporting success - build completes without needing to modify anything now.
The 64bit also needs kernel_headers loaded whereas the 32bit does not, but that is fine and normal, happens just because one extra header file is needed I think.

Osmo crashes with segmentation fault when trying to add a contact.
Note that libxml2 is version 2.9.9

Confirming OscarTalks crash reports

#67 Post by Wiz57 »

Testing ScPup 32 19.01 + 5...Sylpheed doesn't launch, Osmo crashes
when adding contact. NOTE: These may have been present in earlier
releases, but I don't use contact managers too often and had not even
attempted to setup any email in Sylpheed...last time I remember
doing so was in Slacko Puppy 6.3 a bit over a year ago.
Thanks peebee!
Later. ;)

I compiled Sylpheed 3.7.0 in 32bit ScPup and it looks OK at a glance.
Take note that if you want the "attachment tool" and "test" plugins you have to go into the plugins directory in the source and install those with "make install-plugin" in each of the 2 sub-directories. The normal "make install" does not install them. These are missing in previous Slacko builds, not sure how useful they are but seems like a good idea to include them.

LATER:- Sylpheed 3.5.1 works in ScPup64, but I compiled 3.7.0 while I was at it
I have uploaded the packages temporarily in case anyone wants to test.

Sylpheed

#69 Post by Wiz57 »

Oscar, I'll bite, lol...will give your compile of 32 bit sylpheed 3.7.0 a run
through! For testing, I probably won't worry with the attachment and
plugin compilation, just the basic functionality.
I've also been testing the fixes mentioned in other posts for problems
with Palemoon 28.X and missing highlights/option choosing in regards
to Intel graphics. This old netbook has onboard Intel graphics, I think it's
like i945??? but not 100 percent certain.
Thanks for sylpheed!

Hello Wiz,
Just to clarify, those 2 plugins are included in my build if you want to give that a try. I mentioned it more as a pointer for others who may be compiling their own versions. I am not sure of the origins of some of those packages if they are .pets rather than Slackware packages, maybe they are built using petbuild recipes. I personally tend to do the steps manually because it is all a learning experience for me, plus I get to examine any optional extras such as the plugins in this case.

ScPup32 config did have a missing item needed for Sylpheed-3.5.1 - sorry!

I will likely upload a version using OT's compiles presently.

Still investigating the Osmo problem....

Thanks for clarification Oscar...still couldn't get sylpheed to launch though,
probably something I did wrong, investigaing.

Thanks peebee! Will download new iso when ready.

As a test, I shutdown ScPup 32 and booted into 01Micko's
Slacko Puppy 700 RC3 (Slacko 6.9.9.9)...no crashes in Osmo, and
Sylpheed fired right up...not sure which lib changed to cause the
problems, next time I'm in ScPup I'll try lauching from terminal and
see if I can get any error messages. (brings back memories of old
MS Win 3.X days with DLL HeXX, hehe)

Oh, the fixes I located in the forum for Palemoon missing highlights
and option choices seemed to work a charm in PM 28.X in regards
to Intel graphics.

Later! ;)

I'm using an old savefile from previous versions where sylpheed 3.5.0 is installed: it works for me. Note that I have reverted to icu4c-56.1: I did this for wxcam to work. The new icu spreads a lot of symbols errors with legacy software. I'll test a new frugal install.

I noticed a couple of lib symlinks were missing from the 2 main (32bit and 64bit) sylpheed packages, so I have added them and re-uploaded.

The crashes in Osmo are thought to be creeping in because of libxml2 recent versions. (maybe somewhere around 2.9.5 ?)
Slackware tends to keep this library updated to a recent or latest version via their patches so if people are installing these then the crash is starting to occur in Slackos which were OK in their original form.

With ScPup32 you should just be able to download the main sylpheed .pet and click on it to install, but if you completely removed the old one first it might not have worked because of missing symlinks which I have now added to the package, so ditch the previous one, re-download and try again.

Have downloaded the updated Sylpheed 3.7.0 pet, will install when back
in ScPup. For now, in Slacko 6.9.9.9, I'll just keep the older one. I think
you may be correct regarding removing the original first in ScPup
removing the symlinks, as I don't remember seeing them when I was
flipping thru everything with ROX.
Thanks Oscar!

Evince not reading .pdf

#77 Post by davids45 »

G'day peebee,

Running your latest 32-bit ScPup as a frugal.

Almost all my apps are running with just a few minor problems:

1) hwmon module (for CPU Temps) still not working - I reported this in earlier ScPups; module smsc47b397 is said to be loaded by Boot Manager but running sensors in a terminal says otherwise.

2) I have succeeded in getting the 'epson-printer-utility' package to display my printer ink levels in place of the non-working inkgui package; needed a link for ld-lsb.so.3 (from ld-2.29.so) and a re-boot but this previous problem in ScPups now is solved

3) Evince is not reading pdf files; perhaps the error messages (screenshot) will help with a fix? LibreOffice also would not open a pdf so it sounds like a lib issue, not a bug in Evince nor LibreOffice which both work well in other Pups.

Thanks for your time.

David S.

9a49f2d77e46558dffce15cb9c5ea81e ScPup-19.01+5-uefi-T.iso

32-bit iso rebuilt with missing component added and re-uploaded - also deltas.

Left Sylpheed at 3.5.1 for the moment.

Osmo contacts segfault - does reverting to:
http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/ ... i586-2.txz
which fixes that segfault affect any other apps I wonder? Testing needed!

@davids45 - I don't see problems with pdf files on a pristine frugal install - what else have you got loaded?

==============
from Slackware Current change log:
l/libxml2-2.9.5-i586-1.txz: Upgraded.
Added python3 version.
This release fixes some security issues:
Detect infinite recursion in parameter entities (Nick Wellnhofer),
Fix handling of parameter-entity references (Nick Wellnhofer),
Disallow namespace nodes in XPointer ranges (Nick Wellnhofer),
Fix XPointer paths beginning with range-to (Nick Wellnhofer).

Here are ydrvs that can be included in frugal installs to test if reverting to libxml2-2.9.4 causes any problems:
