01micko,

this problem is beyond my skill level and looks like it is not my hardware since in other pups once the speakers are chosen via multi-sound card wizard on reboot sound continues to go to those speakers. have looked in other pups multi-sound card wizard and the choices are the same as in the pic of my first post here in RC. any ideas?

GetFlash is out of date

01Micko,

GetFlash in Slacko RC will download the latest Flashplayer10.
The latest version, as of today is 11,0,1,152.

The site to test the Flashplayer version is here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

In order to get the latest Flashplayer11, you just need to change line 17 in the /usr/sbin/getflash script to this:

Code: Select all

echo -e "#!/bin/sh\nwget -O - http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_11_linux.i386.tar.gz | tar -xz" > /tmp/delayedrun_flashdl
A pet is also attached here: GetFlash - for the latest Flashplayer11

Delay to desktop

Posted: Sun 09 Oct 2011, 23:33
by gcmartin
Live media When pfix=ram boot I am seeing a very long "wait" before "Personalize Settings" emerges on the desktop. If changes are made to match desktop needs, X restarts and there is an equally long wait before "Personalize Settings" reappears to show results of changes.

Is this a temporary testing thing to allow something in the background to "catch up"? If so, that's understandable, but, if its expected to carry into GA, may want to add a "Please Wait ..." message.

Hope this helps.

This literally does put a 'Getflash' menu entry into Puppy under 'Internet'
(took me a while to work that out) :oops:
and was just going to do it 'manually'
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/libflashplayer

So your pet works. Many thanks 8)

Will see if Flashplayer 11 works. Watched some streaming with the previous Flash yesterday - so I have a comparison :)

Yes. Slacko already has Getflash in the menu, so the pet just overwrites the old one. No prob. :wink:

01micko,

I wrote this before, but maybe you missed it: Gnome-Mplayer does not play the .VOB files of the video DvD's which I have backed up to my hard-drive. I don't know if it was compiled that way or if it is a glitch with this 1.05b1 version of Gnome-Mplayer. Older versions included in Lucid Puppy play those files just fine. I hope this issue gets resolved before the official version gets released.

Okay..it's late; time for me to go to bed.

My driver is incompatible in this case - Slacko has a different kernel. So the driver that's being used by Slacko will probably be the standard rt2800usb driver ... and this is known to be unreliable.

micko, I have just sent you a PM with the link to patched source code for the proprietary rt3070sta driver, suitable for tubeguy's Linksys WUSB100-V2.

Flash Downloader from Akita

by sc0ttman
Here is the Flash installer I am using in Akita, for comparison purposes, just so people can choose a favourite Flash-installer, from all that are available...

** EDIT

I forgot to mention, this will install your CHOSEN version of Flash, then patch it to appear as 10.1 (if its not already the latest)..

Also, it gives the choice of installing the great "gflashplayer", so you can play your local .swf files

********

Don't worry, I didn't make it ;) it was originally made by technosaurus (although I did make some changes).. It is i18n'd and includes the Russian translation, thanks to rodin.s

There are Spanish and German translations already made, but I've been slow to make the .mo files..

Also included in the archive is the /usr/sbin/delayedrun script which calls flash-get once a browser has loaded... It is quite different from the normal one, I think (although based on it)...

here it is, updated, faster, i18n'd

****EDIT: you may need to check "defaultaudioplayer" works OK...

1. Seems I'm unable to do this with my "live" CD-RW of "Slacko-5.29.5 RC (k2.6.37.6)...
i.e. Edit the isolinux.cfg file in the ISO used to burn the CD...
So that it treats a pupsave file on anternal HDD as though a pupsave file on a Flash Drive.
And then I can do the necessary to be able to choose if/when to save manually during a session, and...
Be given the choice at shut-down "to save or not to save".

2. If I'm unable to do the above with any Puppy, I'm much less inclined to want to use that Puppy. :(
It's VERY useful to be able to choose to not-save a session. :D
Lupu does it, but not Slacko.

Toshiba Satellite Intel graphics, Intel 8280 sound card, 512megs ram booting Slacko RC from USB flash drive.

When I first booted, sound was fine.
After savefile was created, a reboot showed sound as muted. changed that with retrovol full and rebooted.
Sound still muted on reboot.
Is there a fix for that?
It is just extra work to have to goto retrovol-mixer and recheck the boxes and crank the volume back from zero on each boot/reboot.

Other than that, everything appears to work.

I edited the initrd.gz file, to enable this as the 'usbsave' pfix option...
(The 'init' script, to be exact...)

Notice the lines labeled 'sc0ttman', these are the ones that make it work.

Code: Select all

if [ "$pfix" ];then
 for ONEFIX in `echo -n "$pfix" | tr ',' ' '`
 do
  case $ONEFIX in
   ram) PRAMONLY="yes";; #run in ram only (do not load pup_save).
   rdsh) RDSH="yes";; #exit to shell in initial ramdisk.
   nox)     PNOX="yes";;          #do not start X.
   clean) PCLEAN="yes";; #force version upgrade and cleanup.
   purge) PPURGE="yes";; #radical cleanup for broken system.
   copy) PCOPY="yes";; #copy .sfs files into ram.
   noram) PNORAM="yes";; #v412 partial restore no copy sfs to ram.
   fsck)    PFSCK="yes";;         #do a fsck of pup_save file.
   usbsave) PUSBSAVE="yes";; #sc0ttman, enable change PUPMODE 12 into PUPMODE 13.
   [0-9]*)  PIGNORELAST=$ONEFIX;; #blacklist last $ONEFIX folders (multisession).
  esac
 done
fi
later

Code: Select all

case $PUPMODE in
...
...
 12) #4=pup_xxx.sfs found, 8=pup_save.2fs found.  total=12
  DRVSAVE="`echo -n "$PUPSAVE" | cut -b 1-3`"
  REMOVABLEDRVSAVE="`cat /sys/block/$DRVSAVE/removable`"
  [ "$REMOVABLEDRVSAVE" = "1" ] && PUPMODE=13 #`expr $PUPMODE + 1`
  [ "$PMEDIA" = "usbflash" ] && PUPMODE=13 #v404 fix classmate, with internal usb flash.
  [ "$PUSBSAVE" = "yes" ] && PUPMODE=13 #sc0ttman, option to disable pupmode 12 (disables real time save file updates)
  ;;
Et viola.

Boot with pfix=usbsave to get PUPMODE 13 on HD frugal installs
