Starting to Wonder

Booted up my IBM M41 MyWolfe.

Running

Code: Select all

# cat /etc/issue
Quirky Linux
Linux 2.6.33.2 [i686 arch]

# ldd --version
ldd (GNU libc) 2.10.1

If you notice in that thread, I get the same issue in MyWolf pendrive install. I am beginning to wonder if maybe the way certain Puppy linux releases are configured like a woof build or quirky build interferes with Pianobar running. Just a Bikers guess though. I have other Puppies on this Desktop. Older Ones like Original Bruno Pup and NOP. I am going check what happens with those. Weird.

Edit. Booted into Bruno Pup 4.31. Used your glibc-2.10.1 pet from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mywolf ... t/download and morgonzola pianobar pet.

Details on Big Mikes Bruno Pup are

Code: Select all

#One or more words that identify this distribution:
DISTRO_NAME='Puppy'
#A three-digit numeric value, version number of this distribution:
DISTRO_VERSION=431
#The distro whose binary packages were used to build this distribution:
DISTRO_BINARY_COMPAT='puppy'
#Prefix for some filenames: exs: pupsave.2fs, pup-431.sfs
DISTRO_FILE_PREFIX='pup'
#The version of the distro whose binary packages were used to build this distro:
DISTRO_COMPAT_VERSION='4'
Pianobar works in this distro also. This is a frugal install on a IBM Desktop. Off to NOP Next. Fun and Games, Eh. :D

2nd Edit: Works in NOP 4.31 frugal also using same method I used in Bruno Pup.
Just posting all of this for info.

Sorry for my English.

In recent days I have wolfe with frugal installation.
Excellent job.
In hp laptop.
(all puppys work very well).
But with "shutdown" "reboot" "logout" or with ctrl+alt+backspace i have a flashing screen.

Also if there is a way to install vlc. (do not run any of those I tried).

thank you!

Did a quick manual frugal install of 028 on my old P4 test box....internet,sound and screen resolution were all working and correct on initial boot.No problems with shutdown or reboot. Actually, no real problems at all. :)

VIDEO REPORT: MyWolfe, version 028

Thank you James for the report I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

alfisti not sure about your flashing screen what video driver are you using. As for vlc I am working on the problem but had to go to work today have tomorrow off will work on it some more.

rokytnji
Ment to get back with you earlier about this do not install glib for MyWolfe already had glib-2.10.1 and it is a core file and things can for very wrong when messing with it. I will test with a fresh frugal install tomorrow and see why pianobar is not working in yours it may be something I have compile on my end that allowed mine to work.

"alfisti not sure about your flashing screen what video driver are you using"

intel card.

I got the file "logout" from a pyppy with xfce46 and changed the file in /usr/share/applications and closes properly (from menu).

Installation problem follow-ups / update:

As advised, I burned a CD and booted with it into wolfe-028. The Wolfe was booted up successfully. From there I chose to save a pupsave file in a sub-folder for Wolfe on harddisk. After quitting Wolfe, the core files from the CD were copied to that sub-folder. This time, I have been able to boot up Wolfe on the harddisk with Grub2.

Thanks, GrumpyWolfe

in /usr/share/applications was three files: logout, reboot and poweroff.
i delete "logout" and "reboot" (not to be found in menu) and i open "poweroff" with Geany.

I switched to:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Exec=xf-shutdown
Icon=system-log-out
StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false
Categories=System;X-XFCE;X-Xfce-Toplevel;
OnlyShowIn=XFCE;
Name=Poweroff
Comment=Poweroff the Xfce Desktop

as it was at xfce 4.6.
and it works.
(no with ctrl+alt+backspase ofcourse).

I think I now understand the flash you were talking about and the command in this application you have put in may have a problem for others who are running MyWolfe in pupmode13 for this bypasses the rc script and does not call the save function of puppy script. If I am not wrong. So using this if you do not have a save file already then you will not be asked to create one. It is the time delay that is cousing the flash part. I have the delay set so that xserver is fully exits and rc is able to run.

Howdy again, GrumpyWolfe

Another experiment. Just made another pendrive (Sandisk Cruzer 2 gig).

First uninstalled U3 read only software n pendrive
http://u3.sandisk.com/launchpadremoval.htm

Made the pendrive with Unetbootin (linux Version)
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Booted with

Code: Select all

puppy pmedia=usbflash
at the boot screen.

Tried using Puppy Universal installer to install again to the Kingston 2 gig pendrive. Found the mywolfe.sfs but vmlinuz I could not find so I said screw it and instead. I installed grub4dos onto the Sandisk USB to replace Unetbootin bootlooader and am just going to run with that. Rebooted. Works just fine so far. Have not shut down yet and created persoanl save yet though. Wanted to make sure experiment worked fiirst.

Tap Works. Wireless Works. Hardware info below for this Asus EEEPC 701SD

I am thinking of replacing urxvt with something like Sakura or LXterminal because there is no middle button click for pasting on these little netbooks.
That was why I mentioned XFCE Terminal. It is a pain t hit both right and left click at the same time. Ctrl -V pastes the last thing I may have right clicked and copied on a web page.

Not going to do pianobar this time till I hear back from you. Quirks on this machine. Opened System>Pupscan interface Connection. Window opens to big to be usable even if I auto hide top taskar. Using Cntrl+Left Click and pad to drag Window is not moving it up enough either. Just letting you know.

My screen is set with probe>800x480--24 bit color. System>Hardware Info window is OK though. Window manager also opens too big. Also Video Upgrade Wizard. Just posting for info because this is just a experiment on this netbook. I probably won't use this pendrive on this netbook because I can use Puppeee 4.4 which is better suited for this machine. Just wanted to see how it went. Hope you can use the info.

Happy Trails, Rok

Downloaded and installed and made launcher in top taskbar. Works when launched. Tried making it transparent in preferences. Did not stick. No biggy though.

Curious as to how you take a screenshot. GrumpyWolfe. I have been using Gimp to take mine. Which is a little convoluted. scrot gives me command not found is why I ask.

Edit. Do you think Jemimahs Frisbee http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=64472 will work in mywolfe? Sns drops are frequent for me.

I do not know for sure but one thing it does not play well with other internet connection tools so you can not have puppy internet sns config or her Frisbee will fail.

BTW did a fresh frugal install of MyWolfe-028 and installed the faad2-2.7-V3-wolfe.pet and pianobar-2010.11.06-i486.pet and it worked so I do not know why it is not working for you.[/quote]

On a brighter note. I have installed Opera 11.1 snapshot into mywolfe. Posting with it now.

Running it out of /root.

the files you posted show that faad2-2.7-wolfe.pet and not faad2-2.7-wolfe.pet here is the link it has the syslink for the libfaad.so.0 in it

faad2-2.7-V3-wolfe.pet

Sorry just notice that I did not upload try this lib or you can use this command to fix the problem

ln -s /usr/lib/libfaad.so.2.0.0 /usr/lib/libfaad.so.0 in a terminal window

Thanks, GrumpyWolfe. That pet did the trick. :) Did not use the command because I had uninstalled pianobar and faad figuring I would wait and see what turned up first.

I will be using these posts and pets to see if this fix will work in Big Mikes TLOS Quirky Based Pup also later this weekend. Thanks again GrumpyWolfe.

I have them saved in a Pets Direcory in /root for later. Can transfer via my made USB. Cool beans.

Sorry for slow response working a lot of hours.

jim3630 glad you like it.

You asked about Frisbee well I checked it out and here is what you need to install

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=37704

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=37701

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=37700

And all should go as planed. One thing you need to do is menu/settings/session and startup / Application autostarte add a new startup to the config and point it to the root/startup/Frisbee script in the startup foulder. Uncheck the one for Network applet

Thanks GrumpyWolfe. Downloaded. Set it up in Startup Session. Unchecked Network Applet.

Working so far. Will see how it goes. Usually if I was replying to a post or out of browser too long connection would drop and I would go through reconnect sequence. Good Practice for a noob. :)

Thanks again for being patient and taking the time out for us testers. :) . Nothing to be sorry about. Real World one must eat and stay warm. Good to hear you have a lot of work also. Mine is picking up also (fixing motorcycles) since the weather warmed up.

Happy Trails, Rok

EditL I can say that Frisbee is working quite nicely. No drops. Survives reboot. Just a 1 day test though.
