Please, please, please, please make hanafuda on Puppy
I was bored this afternoon...

Here is a Hanafuda game called sdlhana.
It is compiled in puppy3.00 retro.
It starts and seems to work fine (though I have no idea how to play)

It will create a menu entry of sdlhana

It requires SDL:
SDL-1.2.13.pet
3mb extracts to almost 8mb

Have fun!!!!!!

puppy is the best way to make an OS for yachting. But for this we need an Linux-Version of a prog like seaclear (www.sping.com) or something. Its a prog for show a gps-position in a seachart. A little try for something like this are a sleeping projekt named kship (www.nacs.de).

http://hanafubuki.org is where you go to learn how to play. There is online versions you can try in 2 places...

http://www.gamedesign.jp/flash/hanafuda/hanafuda.html
[you will need to know just a spot of Japanese. Otherwise, "Yes is to the left, No is to the right, when prompted to answer."]

http://www.bamafolks.com/~randy/minhato/
[easy to understand, suggest 2 player fast loading version, or download the software]

http://neopets.com/games/godori/index.phtml
[does not use standard pictures, though, be warned]

http://www.angelfire.com/alt2/robertkalin/create.html
[Net Hanafuda cards are what you use for making the game]

And finally...

http://members.fortunecity.com/hanafuda/theflowercards/
[fully English, with tutorial text on cards version of game]

I hope this helps you. Now I have a question... I installed SDLHana, but I don't know where to get SDL, if that is why its not installing?

Seremina,

I don't know if they're the same hanafuda game, but besides Trapster's SDLHana, both pysol & pysolfc have hanfuda games. PysolFC has something like 43 variants.

I clicked on the link you gave me for the game, [or was that only the SDL part?] and it seemed to install okay but its not on my list and I can't find the Linux executable for it. I'm a recent Puppy convert from Windows 2000 pro that came on my new [secondhand] computer. Its only got 128 MB RAM on it.

I'll check out the PySol stuff. Thanks. I have a few software I'm trying to get back without having to resort to Windows and am scared to use Wine. [What new convert isn't scared by Wine...] So... :(

No bmpx then? Oh well. In regards to wine there is a wiki page here http://puppylinux.org/wiki/applications/various/wine. But I find that most software has an excellent linux equivalent.

:) I know that most software has a Linux equivalent. I'm just having difficulty finding them. I wish the install/deinstall utility [Package Management] had a bigger menu of choices and I'm a little clueless about how to install any Linux software I find on the web. What I am looking for, is...

Hanafuda [which you are trying to supply me with]
Mahjong [the non-solitaire kind]
Shanghai [solitaire kind of Mahjong]
Xabacus or similar soroban [Japanese abacus; I can't use calculators]
Virtual Rosary [I think I know where to find this, but ? to how to install?]
Java [need it for certain browser stuff]
Patience [known as Solitaire; I'm looking for the Windows' clone of it]
Chess software or maybe Perfect Chessmate will work?
Go software or maybe Cgoban3 will work?
igowin [looking for Linux equivalent to this play-against-me version]

so you get the idea. What I want is nothing majour; they're all supposed to be small or at least light on the system. And for some odd reason, my internet isn't working on my compy now. [confused] Its bad enough I can't get an antivirus to work. Am I supposed to turn on the firewall?

Sorry. I won't bog you down with questions. Heh. I'm sooo enthusiastic about Puppy.

Serimina,

without mentioning any specific applications, a lot of the sort of programs you're after are already available for puppy. Just try using the forum search function, and narrow down your search to the Additional Software section.

How difficult is it for you to click the Search button & enter mahjongg? Of course, if you want to pay me for my services, that's a different matter! Image

Well I thought xabacus was available, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so I've uploaded a .pet here.

hi 106498,

no, no bmpx i think. the requirements for this are as big as if this was made by bill gates. i tried compiling it some time ago, but after some time compiling requirements and requirements of requirements...

also i used it for some time with opensuse. i found it's a nice player with nice features but it was not that stable and there are a few other nice players with nice features around here.

maybe you would like to test aqualung?

try this (extended features additional libraries needed [dingo])
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=31754

or this (base features no additional libraries needed [dingo])
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=31689

cheers

Having aqualung play my gorillaz cd now. Works great! Thanks for the link. The reason I was wanting to get bmpx was mainly because of its internet radio features. So if you know a good internet radio player... :)

nice you like aqualung. it should be able to play streams in ogg and mp3 too. but it has no "browser-features" for radio-streams so i think the workaround would be to add your streams to a playlist:

See http://aqualung.factorial.hu/manual/aqualung-doc.html
4.2. Playlist

The Playlist normally receives its contents from the Music Store. However, you can put any file in the Playlist regardless of the contents of your Music Store, using the Add files button at the bottom of the window. Adding a directory or a URL are also supported, by right-clicking on the button and selecting the appropriate menu item, Add directory or Add URL.

The Add URL menu item can be used to listen to Internet radio stations streaming Ogg Vorbis or MP3. You will be shown a dialog with an entry, in which you should enter the URL of the stream. Pressing OK will add it to the Playlist. After you start playing the stream, the Playlist entry changes to the name of the radio station, with the description provided by the station in brackets.
If you want to listen to last-fm, there are

shell-fm:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=209679
Lastfm-1.3
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Multimedia/lastfm-1.3/

i recommend shell-fm.

if you wan't to record lastfm, you will need lastfm-proxy
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=209648
and streamripper
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=212385

as a stream-browser you may use streamtuner
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=26587
(you will have to try both packages, have a look at the discussion) which is also able to record (if streamripper is encluded). streamtuner uses an installed audioplayer for output. so you might setup streamtuner to output to aqualung.

i think, now you'll have to do some testing...

cheers
