Hi 01micko,

Thank you very much for your help (and, of course, for Slacko which is my sole OS except that sometimes I still use W98SE for ease of printing).

You are correct that I do not need to type "puppy pmedia=usbflash" when the CD gets to the F2 message.

I had assumed (wrongly) that because it worked it was necessary..

Anyway, I'm pleased I asked - especially as I'm a lousy typist.

My regards

Try this hacked report-video pet. If it works I'll bung it in.
Works for me too :)
. . . for those who have the memory of a tea strainer (that would be me) . . . once pet is installed use slickpet and go to file to run the new report video.

what is easier to print in Win98?

Hi darkcity,

I use W98SE to print sc5 (SuperCalc 5 for DOS) spreadsheets which I make with the aid of DOSBox 0.73 or 0.74. If you, or anyone knows how to print from Puppy (by some indirect method) I would really appreciate that advice.

In case you should ask why I still use sc5:

It can not only do everything I need as can other spreadsheets, but it can also reverse copy which is a favourite feature not found in any other spreadsheet.

There was also a modern WP (Word Processing) program, I forget which one, that I had trouble printing from using Puppy - so I just used W98SE.

My Epson Stylus Color 400 printer delivered 30th June 1998 still works very well. I had huge help from rcrsn51, and other forum members, with my initial "Puppy" printing (and scanning) problems, but my memory is poor nowadays so sometimes I avoid a challenge and use a simple alternative.

My regards

. . . I may have to
Somehow the 5.3.1 that I was using has partially upgraded to the Alpha2
(despite me saying I did not want to save AND using 'puppy pfix=ram')

For example the bootsplash is now alpha2 and the menus in JWM are the new alpha2 ones . . .

Not quite sure what I have done wrong . . .

I have never used DOSBOX. But, any/all DOS programs print via LPT1/2/3.
Question
  • Doesn't DOSBOX support routing of printer ports LPT1-3, to Linux system printers?
.... ANYONE who has used DOSBOX!!!

Something odd. On a pristine frugal install, I started Seamonkey and the Flashplayer installer popped up and did its job. Then it asked if I wanted to go to the Flashblock page. It went there and as I recall clicked the SM Flashblock. Then I noticed that the title bar was not the right color and the widgets for close, minimize, etc. were missing, plus I could not move the window by grabbing the title bar. I closed from the menu and everything is OK now.

Add: I rebooted without saving and it worked fine the second time. Who knows.

I guess this has been reported. Gnome-mplayer . Yes, it has been reported, missing gmtk.

I notice that Personalize Settings says Xserver: Vesa. Maybe this is part of booting to the desktop? In 5.3.1 Personalize Settings says Xserver: radeon after xorgwizard. I notice this because in Lucid, Personalize Settings says Xserver: vesa, when it actually has been auto configured as radeon. (Amazingly, I just noticed this recently.)

James, what clockspeed is the Coppermine? My old one was 600MHz and early slacko alphas ran fine on it, then it died when I got a power surge in my shed, took out my K6-350 too, the 80486DX50 survived  .. but is a bit too old for slacko!

This box is a blazing 733 MHz....... 256 Mb of ram and 1 Gb swap.Got another old 500 MHz Coppermine I may grab off the shelf, could be interesting.... it's only got 128 Mb of ram.

GL/gl.h missing

Hi Mick,
5.3.1.2 updated my VM from 5.3.1 with no issue other than that the wallpaper really looks bad in 16bit screen depth.

However the devx looks like is missing gl.h headers.
Compiling the chrome video driver I get
In file included from via_driver.h:76:0,
from via_common.h:28,
from via_common.c:31:
/usr/include/GL/glxint.h:36:19: fatal error: GL/gl.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
This was not the case in 5.3.1 (as you know  )

PS: another little thing. SFS_load does not know that you are using JWM 2.1.1 and restarting instead of reloading it.

PPS: Though not formally tested it, savefile to a(n etx3) USB stick appears to take unusually long time. Any changes in snapmerge?

feature requests
There are some updates, to some of the programs, usually included in Puppy versions.
Updating these programs would be good.

Barry has, on his blog, information about bug fix and changes he has made.
Not sure if these would be changes you would want to make.

Every Puppy version should have this.
PupControl

For people who like a lot of programs that do the same thing. An easy way to change the default program.

Like the 3.1.9 Kernel

Hi 01micko &all,
Posting from Slacko 5.3.2-alpha2 with the 3.1.9 kernel. Amd Phenom II X945 using Ati Radeon 3100 Graphics. No problems so far. It is reassuring to know that this Slacko will run well on this system. Puppies using other series 3 kernels, while they run, generate bars or rectangles obscuring the input fields of dialog boxes.
Perhaps the 3.1.8 might have. Thanks for not posting a link at the end of Slacko 3.5 to alert potential testers of a new version. It took me five days to stumble upon the new version. Probably saved me a lot of grief.('')

mikesLr

Edit: ('') Very likely saved me a lot of grief. I just tried the Lupu using the 3.1.8 kernel and couldn't wirelessly connect to the internet: SNS couldn't find my card; Network wizard couldn't connect; and the latest Frisbee for Lupu wouldn't run. I guess things worked out for the best.

I instantly thought that is part of the mesa headers package (mesa_DEV) and it is and always has been

Pupcontrol will be in, already been on radky's thread to suggest some enhancements and bugfix for slackofication (new word). Ok on Defaults Chooser.
