On new2dir point...thanks for that explanation for musher0 Mick...also alot of developers including me don't use new2dir, because they don't want the install in their development environment..The alternative is very simple, just a switch in the make install.

Just use make install DESTDIR=/blah and your new compiled app's complete directory structure will be in /blah and not installed in your development environment.

Wow, what a basic and easy thing to do - wish I'd known about this basic fact roughly, say, five years ago... :-)

Guys...the full set of Dpup compiled Abiword 2.8 plugins will be available in the addons directory in a few days...and of course very soon will be available in the pet_packages-5 directory at ibiblio. Oh...beta5 has shipped with a few plugins, but by no means all...that would get very large indeed.

Cheers

I should also report for the Thinkpad people that beta5 works fine with both the R40 and R60 I have available for testing...acpi even works out of the box on both....

I hope nothing went wrong.
Some 2 hours ago I looked and the temporary uploaded file was 106MB.
When I look now the file has vanished.
Only the devx and the two md5.txt files are still there. :(

Thanks for the tip. This solution will be best when there's no need to separate the prog into parts -- it sure clears up the confusion in the dev directory.

Oh dear! Gposil, why not burn the iso to a cd, and snail-mail it to someone with a broadband connection? Could be quicker.........

christian,
although more work, it is (my opinion) better to allways try to use DESTDIR . The simple explanation is that
(a) new2dir sometimes fails in getting all the files and
(b) that you can't control your packages if you install with new2dir because you've allready installed the full pkg.

So fickle. Why I remember back when people were excited to get beta4. Now just a bunch of bits waiting to get overwritten. Isn't it just the way of things...

Sorry guys, for the awful delay with beta5...in hindsight I should have waited till my speed came back...or taken it down to 01micko... :)

Future releases will be better scheduled...

gposil, what does it cost to use your full bandwidth? Just wondering what others bills are like. I get 3m down and 300k up for US$30/month (about AU$33).
